You're right...it is kinda mean. However, I do see what you are saying. In my line of work, I see my fair share, or maybe even more than my fair share of obese people. Honestly, I don't know how they live like they do. In a way it's kinda sad I suppose.
What bugs me is, I have this friend who is slightly overweight. It seems like EVERY time I talk with her, she calls herself fat and tells me that I'm lucky because I'm not. I need to think of a polite way to tell her that it's not luck because I work hard to keep myself looking the way that I do and that maybe she could change if she tried...idk...

Just straight up tell her why your not fat and look delicious;) Anyways, for some people, it is genetics, but that still doesnt mean you have to eat fried chicken all day with potato chips. This is one topic that just irratates me. You hear people bitching and whining they are fat, but what do they do right after that, or even during that? Throwin down a Big Mac and large fries. The genetic excuse may be a valid one for some people, but is just plain bullsh!t to me. Your genetics dont control what you eat. If you can eat a clean, healthy 2,000 calorie diet every day for a year, and still weigh 400 pounds, you won't catch any sh!t from me. Ive changed my eating habits considerbly these past couple months, and I feel better. Ive come to realize fast food just makes me feel like sh!t. Freash, more healthy food prepared at that moment you want it taste so much better, and just gives me more energy. I just cant see why you would want to live your life everday, with people just always looking at you. Then, if you do manage to have kids, wouldnt you want to be able to go out and play with them? Those kids usually tend to end up like their parents to, because they follow their same habits. Really is a shame.

Some people just like to eat I guess, and there isn't a nutrition label on everything. They probably recognize the state their body is in but it takes a lot of will power to just change your whole lifestyle: give up the foods you've loved for so long for healthier alternatives and lay down the tv remote in favor of the treadmill, and I'm sure many think it's impossible. It also takes time and people don't want it to take time, they want to lose tons of weight right now (hence all the 'magic diet pills' etc) and when they don't see enough progress in a day, a few days, or a week they give up and it's back to eating again because it's familiar.

I feel this way when I see like really OBESE people.
however if they've just got some extra meat on their bones (even if its a lot extra) or just a lot of junk in their trunk then I dont see it that way, they've just got a little extra.
However when they are truely OBESE I just wonder why they never thought to try and fix something when they know what road they are going down and do nothing but grow and end up feeding the problem that is killing them

I don't get how people who are obese consider themselves to have a disease. AIDS is a disease driving to Mcdonalds and ordering a quarter pounder every day isn't.
I also don't get how they are all like we should be ok with our bodies and people are telling them they should be ok with it. No if you have trouble going up a flight of stairs there is a problem and its not ok.

IMO if your overweight(and it is not from genetics or medical problem) you don't respect your body, hence you don't respect yourself. Overweight being at like 15% above average. If your 10-20 over isn't too bad. It's hard gettin into a workout routine and stickin with it, but ya gotta have...dedication. Other than that, I agree with ftbl.

Well, for some people, dropping weight is harder than others, even if they do eat right. But, if you are severly overweight, if you started eating right, and did portion control, then yea, pounds would start to fall off. Some people lose weight at a faster rate than others. Losing weight quickly is also not the best thing. Thats usually when people tend to gain it back, plus more. Hopefully you didnt do the, no eating diet?

hahhahahahah no eating diet...i eat like crazy..just healthy-ish now..and cut out sodas..n junk food..n ice cream..(AND I LOVE ICE CREAM)
salads..baked chicken...watermelon..vitamens..everynow n then (like 1 time every 2 week) i let myself slide n get junk food..i tried burgerking the other day..and..well i had a water..and a small fry...(and i had order a whopper but couldnt eat it felt sick)
plus running, lifting weights, pushups situps...the usual crap...
ok i got a question...eating unhealty foods daily is expensive right? how do people who are stuck in bed b/c they are so overweight pay for it?

i was actually watching a documentary on morbidly obese people...they were between 350 and 750 lbs......the lady who was on the 350-400lb side had a job...one guy was in the hospital and the other 2 lived with their families so i m guessing in the latter cases the family bought them the crap they were eating...at the end of each segment they laid out how much the people ate in one day and the heaviest of the people profiled took in 14,000...yeh fourteen THOUSAND calories PER DAY...i think the women sort of had ephanies that if they didnt stop they were going to kick the bucket but man when the fella who wasnt in the hospital saw all the food he mosied on up to the table, sat down, pulled the table in close to him and started tucking into all the food...one of the women compared it to a drug addiction in that it makes the person feel good and whatnot..it was actually quite interesting

I wouldnt say eating junk is expensive, sometimes it tends to be less expensive than eating healthier foods, because the junk is more mass produced. Example, double cheese from Mickey D's is only a buck. But, go in there and get something on the bettter side, like a grilled chicken, and its about 2 or 3 bucks I believe? Or go to your local super market. Buy a pound of hamburger, then a pound of ground chicken or turkey, and see which one is more expensive.

it is amazing the sheer number of fat feks over in the UK now; we can't say that obesity is an american disease. it is messed up.
thing is tho; with all the bad food people are eating, the increase in allergies and diabetes, means people die earlier, not to mention the coronary heart disease death tolls etc...... so it will balance itself out and actually help cure overpopulation!
whilst it is easy to slag off the fatties and i used to have much contempt for them, it is tuff in this day and age.
we live in the age of consumerism to acquire status symbols. this takes a lot of time at work to afford the finances. consequently, we are too knackered to think about the food we might want / need to eat and cook ourselves with minimum fats and artificial whatevers.....
after slaving all day, do you wanna consider and cook a load of carefully selected organic what nots, or just slam a TV dinner into the microwave? not to mention you can drive everywhere, just to spend all day sat down anyways.....
having said that and despite my 200lb bulk, i strive to ensure my chest is bigger than my belly and i never take a job unless they let me go to the gym at lunch and eat froot all day. plus me and the missus take it in turns to cook every night and so it is always base ingredients and never McDicks happy meals....
so where there's a will, there's a way.
but of course looking like Cartman is genetic (my arse)!!!!!

another thing that angers me is when ever I watch those obesity shows their are people who bring the overweight people who cannot get out of bed food. Why? How can you shove fried chicken down someones throat and say you love them. I mean they can't walk or move so if you feed them nothing but healthy crap what are they gonna do chase you down.

Within the last month i read an article in the New York Post about scientists in switzerland that have located a gene variation that occurs in obese people. After discovering that, they are in the process of trying to find a cure. YES thats right a CURE FOR OBESITY.
Now idk if i really beleive all that, but thats what i read.

there's a lot of things that cause people to gain that much weight, like the things all of you listed. lack of drive is a good one, if youre parents and aunts an uncles are all overweight, then you see no problem with you being the same.

in the UK there are thoughts to charge the parents of morbidly obese children with child abuse.
i think it is a reasonable suggestion; but then when tabloid media is all about street crime, it is hardly surprising kids aren't allowed out to run riot.
when playing fields are being bought up by the government to be sold as housing estates, there is no facilities for sport....
meanwhile tired out career parents are shoving whatever food into their kids gullets to ensure they are fed and thus not moaning, so the parents can get some rest and relaxation.
it is one thing to demand a sense of personal responsibility, but it is something else for the tide to turn, in making things more difficult for the 'right thing' to be done.
but ultimately there is a solution for fatties.... stop eating so many phucking pies! personally, when i see huge people, i like to point and laff at them!

well it usually takes longer than the alotted hour to go, get changed, work out, get changed and get back to work....

While 90% of obesity is self induced, there are medical cases of people`s metobolism going bonkers and their bodies store all calories as fat. There have been medical cases of mobidly obese people starving to death.
Another factor in obesity stems from mental disorders as well. The severely obese person may have several factors going on that contribute to their condition.

i thoroughly enjoy working in a restaurant when it comes to fitness cause unlike most office jobs youre pretty much constantly moving and towards the end of the night doing a lot of lifting..i mean i still try and get in some sort of physical activity in my down time...the only trick is to eat the relatively healthy staff meals and drink water water water instead of Coke Coke Coke

now that i'm in college at the #1 party school in the nation (WVU) i'm drinking a lot more than i used to. i drink at least once a week maybe 10-15 beers(light) when i drink for the night. i don't want to gain any weight so i'm thinking about not driking pop at all anymore to compensate.
hopefully i won't get the freshman 15 lol

I was always under the impression europe was for the most part untainted by the BIGGER FASTER CHEAPER food industry. i guess there is no running from it. Im moving to asia where there is nothing to eat but a bowl of plain rice.
As far as genetics go, there is a difference in the way peoples body metabolizes food, so in fact genetics do play a roll; but it just means that person has to work twice as hard as most of the other guys.
I am not happy with the way i look it is severly damaging my self confidence. although i know this i struggle very hard to keep on a schedule of better food and exercise. I don't drink pop, but i do drink beer and i eat large portions of crappy food late in the afternoon and evening which i know is very bad for you. so why can't i just suck it up and get it together, especially if i know i will be happier once i see results? because hunger is a strong feeling and if your programmed to always be hungry you can't ignore it. I feel as though no matter the portion size i wcould always eat. It may have to do with my ADD, i don't know but i would like help fixing it.
im 200lb/s- at 5'8" most are suprised when i tell them my weight cause it doesn't look it but i would like to be able to see my neck and tie my boots without holding my breathe again.haha.

well we have McDicks, burger Knig, subway, KFC etc just like any other place
PLUS we have Fish and Chips! not to mention the ability of the scots to deep fry everything!
perhap one difference, especially for those over by the Mediterranean, is that much of the grub is proper fresh and tasty; so it is fruit and veg galore!
also the EU has much harsher standards on additives and -cides used on food crops (despite what is suggested by Mad cows etc) and so there is that aspect of healthy eating too.
i think the main concern tho, is the ease at which people can eat loads, but also how they can spend all day not burning off the calories thay have ingested.
the main distinction tho between the EU and US however, (IMO) is portion sizes!

I think that once anyone hits about 350 or 400 its not genetic anymore unless your just really really ****ed up. I don't remember seeing any obiese bones of people 2000 years ago. Seriously just cut down on the crap and get some exersize. Personally I love any and all junk food and I eat a ****load of it but I do a rediculious ammount of exersise and I eat a lot of healthy food also and i just have a fast metabolisim. But its not like im just a skinny ass kid cuz i am i exersise like for example I ran 6 miles today so I can talk. I just think that if you can't run a mile under 10 or 12 minutes (espically if your a guy i know really girly girls who just can't do anything athletic but they are hot so whatever :) )haha but really i could do that when I was 5. If people would just cut like 1/4 of all the **** they eat out of their diet replace it with healthier food and made themselves exersise they would lose so much weight. Its not that complicated. Exersize and diet the only reason they don't lose weight is that they won't stick to a damn plan and blame it on ****. If they would just accept the damn fact that it is their fault they might get somewhere. and they can't talk about how exersise is too hard or whatever just do what makes you sore and tired. Maybe its not running 3 miles or whatever maybe its running half a mile but if it hurts its good. Sorry im rambling but we have such a huge problem and its really sad because its not that hard to get over if people would just commit to something and follow through. So yea sorry but thats what I think.

Just fast food and soda would hardly cut into it. Dont get me wrong, it would help, but theres a lot more to it than just these 2 things. I think that is possibly one of the most uneducated statements ever. So, lets say they do this. So, I could eat these huge pattied hamburgers my dad likes to make, and some fried onion rings with them, and maybe for some dessert, something like an oreo pie. Now while some people may not eat like this, or eat it that much, there are plenty of people who basically eat dinners like this all week. Oh, and since I dont have any soda, I think Ill have a beer with that dinner. Guess how many empty calories are in beer? I believe its like 130 for Bud Light, which is my beer of choice. Its not that they need to outlaw these things, its more like people need to be educated, and have a bit more self control. Today was actually the first day I've ate McDonalds in probably a good 2-3 months. Once you learn what your actually eating, and what it does to you, it doesnt really appeal to you anymore.

Yeah when I was 103lbs, my "thick" friends used to say "man you so lucky" One day I just got sick of it and said "If you feel this way, do something about it!" Now I am 28lbs, I am 140lbs. Just found out this morning. I was thinking "how the hell did I get this big?" I mean I work nearly everyday and at work there are lot of walking involved. I even eat less but I believe it is the choice of food. I don't know. but then again I was 134lbs last year then went back to 103lbs after snowboarding season. so it is yo-yo with me. They are still human beings with the same physiology as other human beings, so excercise and eating right will cause them to lose weight, whether mummy and daddy were fat or not.
PaoloSmythe
10-04-2007, 04:30 PM
ah ha! but if they have an inherited syndrome, then they are not as 'most' other humans, but a freak! freakishly fat freaks!
but i see what you mean Baz; in that just coz their condition is unavoidably genetic, that isn't a carte blanche excuse to pig out and never exercise....
however, we are considering social perceptions here and i suggest, that even if they dieted like a trooper, certain inherited traits can be so severe, that the rest of us would still feel inclined to say 'eat less pie fatty!'
eg Cushing's syndrome
gerard
10-04-2007, 09:04 PM
As far as Cushing's syndrome goes, An estimated 10 to 15 of every million people are affected each year. That's a small number when you consider how many people are overweight. Let's say there is a fat gene, does that mean that 60% of Americans have it? Cause that's how many are overweight.
PaoloSmythe
10-04-2007, 09:19 PM
clearly most fatties are lazy greedy fat phucks. but at the same time, most doesn't equate to all.
nor is cushings the only syndrome. but yes, the majoriy do just need to eat fewer calories.

well its true some people have slower metabolisims or however you spell it and they are born fatter than most people and stuff but its not like they can't work it off they just gotta eat better then I do and exersize half as much.

LOL I was watching this show about over weight people. This lady she wanted that bypass surgery. In order to be approved she had to see a counselor and she was complaining about how much she cannot control her bladder, how people were laughing at her, etc. Next thing you no they show here at a fast food restaurant pigging out. They do not deserve sympathy
PaoloSmythe

others tho, are still entitled to a benefit of doubt... until you see them go into McDicks etc of course....

i agree paolo she doesnt deserve sympathy. they should not get granted surgury b/c they think that will solve all their problems and think they can eat fast food. Waste of society. if you want to loose weight go eat a subway but when fat people complain they are fat and carry a bottle of ranch in their pockets for freaking pizza/anything else they eat they are just a waste. exercise and diet and you wont be 600 lbs regardless of genes or not.

Nope Paolo, he`s right. In America you can see this a lot. I can`t tell you how many people I see dump a crap load of Ranch on Pizza.
Oh on the genetic or can`t help it thing. Something no one has mentioned yet is the mental dissorder factor to this equation. Often very obese peole are dealing with one ore more mental/emotional problem and the weight is a symptom of the real disease. Treat the mental disorder and often the physical symptoms dissapear as well.

I once saw a guy who weighed about 500 lbs at our local pancake house absolutely smothering a plate of home fries with about half a bottle of either ranch or blue cheese (I was too far away to tell which). I had to move to the other side of the table so as not to see him. Not only was I laughing so hard but something inside me was flat out disgusted. And in order to not barf up my breakfast, I had to turn away:puke:

ok....i don't want to sound ignorant as sh!t but i'm scared of fat people! i mean i can be in the same room as them, but when it comes to physical contact like hugging and stuff, i get scared. i don't want to offend anyone here who may be a little larger. don't take it personal, i don't like to hug my own grandma cuz she's fat and it scares me. i think i have megalophobia!

Apparently fat is contagious. I don't want to catch it. Hopefully they come out with a pill for it just like the one that cured my restless leg syndrome. I just couldn't keep the grove out of my feet. They just wanted to hit the dance floor.
Seriously though, studies show it is contagious.....

Its contagious because everyone is PC and wants to be nice about things, instead of telling people the truth. Your best friend gains 100 pounds, so instead of eating healthy like you normally do, you decide to go to Burger King and get that huge Whopper and big ole fries. Whatever. Tell that fatass they need to not go there, and hit up Subway if anything. I have no sympathy for fat people. You're a fatass. Gonna cry? Then do something about it instead of shoving that twinkie down your throat.

Cook up some boneless skinless chicken breast on the grill.
Cut it up into chunks.
Mix bbq sauce with ranch dressing (1:1)
In a large bowl mix shredded lettuce with a couple cans of Mexican Corn (Its the corn with bits of other stuff in it).
Mix the chicken, sauce and lettuce/corn mix all together.
Use some large flour tortillas and make large burritos out of this mix. Wrap it up tight.
I like to place them all tightly in a pan and refrigerate overnight so all the flavors mix.
Cut burritos on the diagonal and serve.
