I had someone steal an empty snowboard bag out of the back of my pickup. I've got a cap on the back, but I didn't lock it. Now I lock everything, or at least keep my board where I can see it. Even when spending too much money to eat in the lodge.
I have never had anything taken before but I have been to a bunch of resorts that have big sings that says watch you stuff problems with theft.

My brother had a brand new board never used. We headed up the mountain got there, went to the bathroom, came out, and the board was gone! BASTARDS! :x

funk that nonsense. I bring my board in the bathroom with me. Sure, might make it a little hard to pee the first time or two, but at least I've got my own personal splash-guard

I don't know about other mountains but mtn creek won't let you bring the board inside a lot of times...
I have never been to a place that will not let you take you stuff inside.

But MC will gladly rent you a "Monitored" space, or sell you a board-lock.

Yeah they usually have a designated area where you can pay to have your stuff watched and they charge you each time! And, I would like to know where you can put a lock where it won't hurt if you fall on it!

I've never had a problem bringing my stuff inside at the creek so in the past I've just done that, and the one time I paid to have it "watched" the guy didnt even look at the ticket and just handed me the board I pointed to, so it would have been easy to just point to a nicer one.

i bring my **** inside with me to eat or whatever. Or one of my buddies watches the stuff while i'm in the bathroom.

Cristin, I guess it depends on the day, I should probably just carry a little lock with me or something.

I always lock my stuff up if I'm going to be inside for an extended period of time. I try to put it in a spot where I can see it from inside also. If I'm only running in to go to the bathroom then I'll put it with someone elses board or by a lock that someone else left on the bar. It looks like my board is locked unless you actualy pick it up or move it.

[/B]If you go to Crystal Mountain in Washington don't leave your board in the designated area, although there is people that watch it.... they are normally 16-17 year old high schoolers and don't do a very good job!! I got my board stolen from there and my Burton bag with like 100 dollars worth of crap in it the same year. Anyways be cautious no matter what, it's not like out of 100 boards in the designated area someone could pick out a potential thief 100% of the time anyways. Peace out yo ~Abe

meh, never had something stolen......I feel bad for people when the do have something jacked....had a buddy, just picked up a new ride, everything new, picked up when we went in to eat. I always ride with a lock, it isnt something to worry about ridding with, some small pocket on your cargos holds it fine.....I ride with a bag so it aint no thing for me to keep some extra stuff....only thikn I have to worry about is the tool....

I don't know if it's a new thing going on or not, but my friend is a skier and she got 1 of her poles stollen. One of the workers said that it's been happening alot lately. It's just not cool. It's not as if the poles are expensive, it's just really inconvenient.

When i 1st stated in 8th grade my friend board got stollen ever since then i always use board watch, if i gotta go the lode to warm up I try to get a summit lodge bcause I figured its harder to steal a board and get away with it from the top.

I only know of someone getting stuff stolen from thier car in the lot.
We can't take stuff inside here, so I usually lock it or if I don't have the lock w/ me I'll wrap my leg strap around the pole so someone can't just grab it easily.
mirmade
02-25-2005, 06:21 PM
never had any o my stuff stolen. i used to lock it up, but i lost my lock, sooo that does me no good.... and as far as bringing stuff into the lodge, every place i've ever been makes you leave your stuff outside. they MIGHT make an acception if you have a boardbag and are packing it up, but thats the extent of any of it.
someone mentioned poles.... everyone i know skis, and like the majority of them have had at least one pole stolen at some point....

Yea, people look at me funny because I take my board into the bathroom with me. If it's something I can't afford to replace... it's staying with me. My coach had his board stolen right out of ski school once... so I suppose I'm not the only one who takes my board into the bathroom

riding in the tri-state always means theft.
keep your boards locked and radios out of your cars.
nyc is only an hour or two away...theives snowboard too.
we usually have a chain with a padlock...
i had this kid come up to me and my friends after a day of riding at wyndham saying that his board and his friends board just got jacked...
he said it happened to him last year.
it was the beginning of the season too, which means the board he was riding was probably brand new...
you would think that he would have bought a lock, after what happened to him last year...
i am pretty paraniod about my board but luckily Sierra has free board checks for Season Pass holders... I would rather somone steal my car in the parking lot then take my board, atleast insurance will cover that and it gives me a reason to keep riding :P

yeah boards getting stolen is definatley not cool. It would be nice if there was something we can do to prevent this. I know for example with my mountain bike there is a database of the serial numbers.

wachusett has a free board chek for everyone, takes a lil bit to get through the line around lunch time, but its worth it.

You can register your board at http://www.snowboardregistry.com... I don't know what the recovery rate is, but I guess it can't hurt...

Yeah I use to live on the east coast and that was a big problem. I had a board stolen back in the day. But out here in the West most people have like 3 or 4 boards and do not need to steal others peoples stuff. That is one great thing about out here it is not that big of a deal becuase we have plenty of boards to go around. I can not belive how many east coast riders on posting on this site. That is cool just want to know where the west coast riders are at? The slopes I guess!

I friend of mine got his skis stolen a few years ago. Oh well, just skis i guess. Anyways, i use a lock when im at the slopes by myself, if im with people, we put our stuff right in front of the window of the lodge so we can see it while inside

I've never had anything stolen, but maybe that's cuz i go to crappy little resorts. I think all you'd have to worry about people taking is gear- if someone is at a resort, i think they already have a snowboard, and snowboards are kind of hard to discretely steal. Everywhere i've been to doesn't let you take boards inside lodges tho, but they have those lil rack things. o well, i don't really worry bout it.

Thieves will steal anything they can get their hands on. If you have what you think is a crummy board because it's old or beat up, so you think it won't get stolen, think again. A close friend of mine got his board stolen at Creek last year. The board was a 96 Zepplin. Granted, it was almost ten years old and beat up, but it was irreplaceable in the sense that it had a lot of sentimental value.
Buy a lock. The $10 you spend is well worth the peace of mind.

Yeah I agree a lock is enough of a deturant for thieves. A good trick I used this year was putting my board on a rack near an abandoned lock. Alot of people either forget thier locks or they put them on the rack so they don't have to carry them. You can strategicly place your board so it looks as if the lock is on your board.
SnoChick
03-20-2005, 06:26 AM
Yea, a lock is a good idea... I also take my board into the bathroom with me too. I get some strange looks, but hey, if it's something I can't afford to replace, it's staying with me.

Another good deterrent is to thrash your board to hell. Then noone will want it! IMO people that steal boards dont know much about the sport, they are just trying to make money so they go for the pretty new ones.

*laughz* ... well.. a snoboard can be replaced.. for a price yes.. but it can still be replaced.. ive been a f***ing bitch mourning over this a**hole for 6 months.. and obviously virginity cant be replaced but like i said.. i dont really care about that.. i waz just waitin for sumone who deserved it.. which iz what i still do

We ususally eat outside on a deck with the boards right next to us. (Weather permitting) When I do go inside, which is rare, I lock it up... even the rentals I used to get.
As for virginity... wait a few years and it won't even matter who "took" it. What matters more is who keeps your heart.

I have never had a prob with my stuff getting stolen allthough i have wondered if it would be there sometimes.. usually we bring it in with us also even though it says you can't i still do it.
In whistler I was nervouse just cause it is such a big mountain and there are so many ppl there. I do see the sounds everywhere though. When we were at cypress they had ppl there that were ingraving boards etc. with the cops, not sure what that would do to prevent it from being taken though.

at my 2 resorts they have a corral, you drop your board off and they give u a card in a chain witha number on it...you go eat, knowing that ur board is locked up and people are watchin it...then you come back and trade them the card for the board...them u hit the Mount...
i gues i kinda take it for granted...

I went to jack frost last winter and rented boards with my friend. No one stole the boards, which we left laying around outside while we were in the lodge, but someone stole his shoes! He had to return the boots and then had to go home in just his socks. It was quite hilarious. His shoes were kinda crapped up, so we think someone just did it to be cruel, or they had the same shoes or something.
