I'm going to New York for a week in July and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on things to check out while i am there. (Music shops, resturants, venues, skate shops anything really)

I'm going to where CBGB used to be and the CBGB shop near there anything besides that?

My company put together this awesome guide to NYC. All of the suggestions come from employees, and since I think everyone I work with is pretty cool, it's a safe bet that these things are too:

Check to see if there are any concerts you're interested in at places like the Knitting Factory, Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall, etc. I usually check out The L Magazine for event listings. You can find out about different concerts, art shows, walking tours, whatever in there:

Don't be afraid to check out some of the boroughs other than Manhattan. And by this I mean Brooklyn. I happen to think that Brooklyn is the coolest thing about New York. Williamsburg has a really fun nightlife (And is a quick trip from Manhattan). I also think Park Slope is a really cool area, and during the summer, they do a music series there at Prospect Park.

As far as typical New York stuff goes, well, tourists go to a lot of those because they actually are cool. Central Park is actually awesome, and the museums here are just great.

One of the coolest things about New York is that you just find things organically. Before I lived here, I never really had a plan beyond "Must get to San Loco for some Macho Nachos." It's such a great city for just walking around and coming across things. And since you're coming during the summer, your chances of just "finding" things are that much greater. Get off of the subway at Union Square. Something will be happening. Walk down to Washington Square Park. Something will be happening. Or just find an outdoor cafe and people watch.

Oh, and if you happen to enjoy microbrews and old school video games, make sure you get to Barcade in Williamsburg. They have 25 taps and tons of old arcade machines. It's heaven.
