alyeska is a great resort. I have ridden it and its a great mountain.

If you have the experience and money i would take a tour with the Valdez heliboarding camp.

once you go heli you wont want to go back :)

alyeska is my home mountain and it's pretty sweet. definitely check out the north face....especially if it's open on a powder day...but yeah there's tons of natural features and stuff, i'm sure you'll like it.

I have a friend that goes to Alaska every year, has done so for over 10 years.

I asked her if she had been to Alyaska...she looked at me funny and said if she goes to Alaska, it is definately not to ride at a resort. It's all about the backcountry, snowmobiles, skinning it up, heli, etc.

yeah that's what most people do when they come to AK...but you know if you're not into that, alyeska is good.

i wouldn't really know, but honestly girdwood is full of hippies and all people really do there is get stoned...but there is a bar or two so it's probably not too bad. it's a cool town at least, i like it.

Alyeska is a great resort to stay and ride in. I've been ridin there for 11 years and still get slammed by some of the runs. want some powder, hit glacier bowl up above chair 6, or traverse across high traverse to Max's mountain, where you can find alot of untouched powder, pillow drops, etc. Only Max's isn't open very often, so you gotta hit it on a good day. On the left side of glacier bowl is 2 parallel chutes called christmas and new years. Left of the round house is North Face, a black and double black diamond run that consists of a whole side of a mountain, which leads right to the hotel and a tram back up to the roundhouse. There's not much nightlife in Girdwood unless your invited to a hotel room party. There's the Sitzmark bar and resturant at the bottom of chair 3, and real good expensive food at the Double Muskeg a little ways before you get to the daylodge. For some better powder experiences, ask some boarders around for where tincan is, which is a spot you gotta hike, and just build as big a jump as you want, you wont get hurt. The night scene is better in downtown Anchorage, bout a half hour, 45 min drive from Girdwood. Couple bars, but if your into live rock and mosh pits, check out Bitoz on 4th avenue. Some other spots to ride at would be Hatcher's Pass, north of Anchorage, Valdez, way south of Anchorage,(Great heli ski/ cat touring) Haines (twisted killer peaks for heli skiin).

Thanks for the info. The only downfall seems to be the lack of night life. However im sure there are cabs that go to Anchorage.

yeah dude not really any cabs hooking it up, there's a shuttle that takes people from anchorage to alyeska and back, and you could get a one way ticket for $7 i think, but you'd be stuck there until you paid for a cab.

i would recommend chair 5 now that i think of it actually, it's a small bar/restaurant where a lot of people seem to go hang out, get drunk, play pool, whatever.

Well, here's the lowdown. I lived in AK for 19 years. Alyeska is in a small hippy town called girdwood , or 'girdweed." if you can figure that one out. As far as the riding goes, there are tons of nice natural features, but none are any good unless there is some fresh snow. If ther hasn't been any freshies for a few days, it gets icey and ****ty. And as far as the night life goes,...there are a couple bars, but it is a very small town. and I'm sure the prince hotel has some nice bars, if you want to pay $9 for a beer. But anyways...make sure you hit it up on some sweet pow days, and definitely meet some of the locals, because they are good people. Alaskans are some of the nicest people out there. Stay up. Peace.

Ive live in Alaska all my life.Alyeska is a great mountain the only thing it lacks is in there park. im not a big park guy but there park is really weak. but then again its not really a park kinda mountain. its all natural. probly 90% of the jumps at aly are natural.but if u want to do some good backcounrty go to hatchers pass. its about 75 miles from alyeska. but make sure u talk to the right locals cuz some of them are goin to tell u to do 16 and thats just not backcounrty go all the way up the bowl. thats were its at.
