was just doing some net surfing at work and came across this. Popular Science conducted a survey of the leading cities populated with high tech jobs. San Jose, CA came in first. yeah, no surprise. But Boulder, CO came in 4th for the nation! I was shocked! what the hells in Boulder?

I'm assuming they're probably basing that on all of the stuff in the Louisville area - the area around the highway between boulder and denver used to be farmland, but these days it's all subdivisions and tech companies - Sun's pretty close to boulder, as well as storagetek or one of those, I think. Plus, IBM has been in Boulder since the 80's.
Also, there are a few big companies north of boulder, most notably HP.

We have a huge high-tech scene here in Oregon too. Mainly because Intel's headquarters is out here in Hillsboro, and Yahoo just moved into a facility here, but there are all sorts of other smaller high tech companies as well.

Some people do have careers outside of snowboarding you know.

Well, I do cuz I'm a nerd, and I like me some brain work. Plus, I really like architecture. Plenty of architecture work in the ski towns tho, so it works out.

i needs to be able to fund my snowboarding adventures

Satan

just do what i did. tell your boss that you quit and pack up the car. i never looked back. who needs all that money if you still aren't happy. that's what i thought, so i quit my real job and became a snowboard bum. i don't make close to the money as i used to but i'm 1000xs happier. i get to snowboard everyday for free with really close friends. i wouldn't change it for the world.

Yeah, if you're only working to fund snowboarding, I'd say do what satan does. The only reason to work a real job is if you really like it... I want to do me some architecting because I like architecting :)

see, Kelly knows where i'm coming from. do what makes you happy, not what people think you should do.

Yep. And don't work for anyone who doesn't have a powder day clause, that's just sick.

I thought Intel headquarter's in Santa Clara... but OR does have the largest Intel site... what else is out in Hillsboro?

It could be that SnoChick. I just assumed that it was headquartered here since we have so many different Intel plants, at least three different ones (that I know of) in Hillsboro alone.

We also have Yahoo (they just put a site here), and Epson, then a bunch of smaller ones like Credence, Digimarc, Kinetics, Komatsu Silicon, WaferTech, and Welch Allyn.

Yeah their a tons of Tech jobs out here just tons of people living here also trying to get those jobs. Good luck on finding something. I am always looking for something else. I did see that a company in Vail was looking for a .NET guy to work on Resort Software. I guess i will one day need to get my .NET skills up to par.

http://www.rtp.com/info/about.employment.asp These guys were looking for some .NET a few weeks back but it looks like they do not have it anymore. But does not hurt to drop them a line.
