Yeah, I saw that and wanted it. Although I already have an ipod and I'm poor, so I guess I won't get it.
That's bad timing with the mini tho. Doesn't the mini have slightly more memory at least?

ipods are the best things ever for music.

They're almost identical except for size of the nano and color screen. Otherwise, the storage is similar.
i have the ipod photo and let me warn u. the color makes a huge difference in the battery life

so if that is the case, then suposidly the price will drop on the mini's and they will be pushing the nano. since they are about the same price new, and since this is comig out as a new product, wouldn't the price of the mini drop? if the price does drop, which i don't think it will, then i'de rather buy the mini than the nano
then again, i have always gone for Creative Labs stuff. i just liek the way those are set up versu the Mac brand.

Apple isn't selling the mini anymore. Although, I'm sure you can still by them at retailers. But, If you go to the online apple store, the mini is no longer. I think they are simply replacing the mini with the nano.
i hate ipods. creative labs are so much better. plus i really hate itunes. that program is so stupid.

the only thign i really liek Macs for is video editing. give me a up-to-date Mac and a copy of Final Cut Pro and i'll have a field day.

They are also good for audio and image processing/DTP/etc.
I don't have a problem with macs, I use both daily, they pretty much do the same thing, use whatever platform is best for the applications you want to use.
kelly
09-09-2005, 04:49 PM
I love my mac. :)
the arguement of which platform is better has changed a lot recently. what gave mac the lead in faster and more advanced processing was all dedicated to its hardware artitecture. the fact the mac is switching to intel processors really screws up the platfrom from the core. however, do to cheaper and faster processors and RAM it really doesnt matter much unless u are a software developer or performing top of line high end performance. it all comes down to preference.

I like mine cuz I do 3-d modelling and it's speedier with rendering and walkthroughs and stuff :)
I didn't know they were switching to intel processors though.
SimonInAustralia

I didn't know they were switching to intel processors though.
I think they are switching to Intel CPUs due to IBM not being able to provide low temperature G5s for notebooks, with the G5 creating too much heat per GHz. They were also falling behind in the speed of their processors, not being able to come up with the 3GHz G5 when they were scheduled to, or not having plans to within Apples expected timeframe.
I expect it will still be a proprietary Apple box, just with an Intel CPU.

I don't know anything about these things, I just mainly like my powerbook cuz it's pretty :)
well, and it does what I need it to well.
I'm easily won over by industrial design though.
SimonInAustralia

Apple does seem to stay ahead in the industrial design of their products, they usually seem pretty slick when they first come out.
i can see that. i almost bought a powerbook too, but i got a sony vaio notebook instead. i am very pleased with the purchase.

I am actually not a huge fan of the ipods. I was but now they seem to lock up all the time. I would like to see a hard reset button like on my palm
well i know u have had trouble with ur ipod in the past G, but i thought there was a hard reset button. if u hold down the i think menu and middle button at the same time for like 10 secs or so. its either menu + middle button or play/pause + menu button

mbile phone and MP3 player in one... why does this sound like a compleate marketing stunt?
i read in another article over the weekend that asked about the battery life. the response was something like, we have the the right product at the right price. the market will flock for it.
a line like that doent answer the question about battery life. it just says u have a cheap phone for a cheap price.

SimonInAustralia

Battery life is supposed to be 14 hours, compared to (from memory) 18 hours on the mini, that's not too bad.
It uses flash memory, like the shuffle, so I guess it can't be directly compared in terms of battery life to the mini which used a hard drive.
So I suppose it's more like a bigger shuffle with a colour screen, than a smaller mini with a colour screen.
I'll wait til the first size upgrade.
the new nano is flash memery too which is much better for snowboarding then a hard drive. flash memory is also faster ,has better resistance to the cold , and is more rugid then a hard drive too

Thanks.... I like my 20G, so I'm not jumping on the Nano craze just yet. Maybe when this one dies and the Nano has a storage increase, I'll think about it.
i meant a must read for any fan, not must have or buy. i thought the articles where interesting how they viewed and treated the nano

How is it?...Is it as small as it looks in the pics on the net?...2GB or 4GB?
I would have gone for the black one as well.

Nope, nano replaces Mini.
Might be able to pick up existing stock of the Mini cheaper, not sure.

yeah i'll try, but i kind of have a bad habbit with, well, breaking stuff the first time i get them, i'll just be super safe with it
i bought a shock resistance case for mine so when i go snowboarding. the case is half ugly and bulky in comparision to the ipod, but it does a good job protecting it. i use it too when i go running and i have dropped it before running. the case stood up and ipod not damaged

Yeah it's really small. I got the 2G cuz I already have the 60G iPod photo and only using this for on-the-go. I got the armband with it and it's really sweet. I've been out running with it already and no skips. Only thing though, with the black, you get finger prints on it so sometimes it's kinda annoying.

I wanted the black Nano, but I got a sweet deal on a 4GB mini, in my favorite color green to boot! Ebay hooked me up and I couldn't pass on it. Maybe when the Nano comes out in more colors I'll score one.

I've been out running with it already and no skips.
It shouldn't skip, since it is using memory chips instead of a hard drive, no mechanical parts like the hard drive heads to move when it receives a physical shock.

Plus, apparently it didn't skip when those dudes threw it around to test it...

I hate ipods, but only because I hate Apple computers; hate by association I guess.
I just recently bought an MP3 player (a Nike one), but it's only for working out, and I needed a really small one with a strap that can go around your arm (and headphones that stay on while you're moving). The ipods just didn't fit that profile, and they were expensive, so I didn't buy one.

You are paying for the small size, possible with the use of flash memory instead of a hard drive.
Is the Creative Labs 20GB as small as the iPod nano?
If you don't need the small size, or non-skipping ability, then a much larger (for the price) hard drive player might be better.

Hi Tara, it's cause I don't like looking at my ugly head...I have a real problem with photos, and don't like looking at myself!...I wouldn't want to put anyone else through that.
(And, it isn't a beard, I'm just too lazy to shave often)
don't be shy. show me your face

I dunno... not that I have anything against the iPod Nano, but I just think it's too small... my bulky 40 gb ipod is always slipping out of my hands; imagine how slippery a nano would be. I also tend to lose things easily. I would lose it in a few seconds if I wasn't careful. But then again, they come with those lanyard things don't they?
Seeing all these people walking around wearing their phones and their music around their necks got me thinking... could an iPod Photo on a lanyard be like bling bling for computer geeks?
 hmm. Just an afterthought.

They're really cool, but a co worker of mine cracked the screen on his only after a few days. Evidently it's problem along w/them scratching. I go through about three cell phones a year, I'm sure I'd end up breaking a nano in about two hours.
