OK now, time for a big question. Who here is a fashion whore? By this I mean who has got to be on top of all the new on-snow fashion trends, i.e. the leg bags, stuff like that. Now I have to admit I tend to buy at least one new jacket or pair of pants each year. My girlfriend constantly gives me **** about it too. I just tend to find some new piece of gear that's too sick for me to pass up. Although I never pick up on the trends like the leg bags or the tight pants and all that...

I buy all Burton AK...AK lightweight shell (Continuum Jacket/Pants), AK gloves, AK fleece first layer, AK minimal cut fleece thermal layer, AK bags (heli/camera/day), etc.
I like Burton, especially Burton AK.
Designed for minimalist tech rather than fashion, backcountry function rather than resort stlyin'.
I want to be warm in the resort and back country, I'm not into the fashion side of it, if I were then I guess it would be all Analog instead of AK, Analog are into the bling/fashion side of it.
This year it's all black, so I guess that's the fashion trend I go for...all black/minimal-tech...

I do wear earflap beanies with the tieup bits hanging down, I guess they are a bit of a fashion trend at the moment.

that's true, everybody's rockin the 'flaps these days, although they keep you ears sooooooo toasty!!
I dig on burton too though, I pretty much have all ronin gear with a little volcom stuff to change it up.

i have 3 legbags, but i use 2 of them on hill (switch colors around) and one for just chillen in. ive never payed full price for one, im trying to do my own thing, and if it includes some of the "cool things right now" then whatever.
my snowpants are taken in on the inseam and fit like chickpants, and i crochet my own weird hats, sometimes i wear a one piece, sometimes i wear jeans, i do whatever the hell i want, im just having fun

I've been wearing the same jacket for about four years now, so I guess I'm not as big of a fashion whore as the guys. On the mountain, anyway.
yeah i i have been buying new outerwear every year for the past two years. its just so much fun getting new gear.

Damn, the same jacket for four years, I thought I was un-fashiony! :)
I've had the same 2 jackets for about 3 years - a spring jacket and an insulated one, and the same goes for pants, but I just ordered a new jacket and new pants because my old jacket is getting kinda ratty, and I ripped my insulated pants somehow. But yeah, I'm not very fashiony. Although for some reason, i felt compelled to buy plaid snowboard pants this time. We'll see how they look when they get in to REI though, I might just trade them for the old standby black...
whoa! did u get those burton plaid ones! i hope so, those look sweet. one thing that sucks about plaid or camo, or whatever the "in" fabric is that its cool now, but what about in two or so years. you might look at it and laugh

2 years ago was my first season, so of course i had to get all new clothes and gear, but last year i only got new pants..
we have a burton sample sale in my area every year, sometimes before the start of season and again in the spring... so i think i'll have to hit that up again this year and see if there is anything worth grabbing.. i've been getting the invites for like 3 years now, and got some really cool tshirts and other stuff in the past, but now that i actually have a use for the snow gear, its even more fun :)

Whatever, I didn't even know it was in, I just thought it was kinda punk rock, which I always dig. I'm so not ever "in," but it's ok.
Not the burton ones, mine are made by betty rides. They're a subtle brown plaid too. Fancy.

Ooooh, I saw those, I really liked them. I wish their stuff fit me better.

i have to get a few outfits each season. i get so sick of looking at the same stuff all the time. plus when new gear comes to the shop, it's really hard to pass up. sometimes i feel working in a shop is dangerous, cause i'm the one opening the boxes. i can't help but buy **** all the time. i'm addicted!

I used to work ina clothing store and unpack all the shipments. I'd basically have first dibs on EVERYTHING, and at 50% off, I spent all of my paychecks on clothes. Next summer, I switched to Lifeguarding. Nowhere to spend the dough.
Satan
09-13-2005, 08:58 PM
i feel you there. definitly having first dibs on everything all year gets really expensive. at the end of the season i still wonder why i haven't saved any money, then i look in my closet and say, oh i know why i'm so broke. i'm so dumb. i'm such a clothes and accessory whore sometimes

i know. every year so many people offer to buy my boards and stuff, but i get so attached to some of them. even though i probably will never ride them ever again. they are all storage waxed and bagged up. people keep begging me to sell my option Joni Makinin from 3 seasons ago. but i don't want to give it up. it's still perfect. it's such a sick board and it just so happens to have the meanest graphics too. it would look good as a bench or table.
why do some girls where fitted, lowcut snowboarding pants. i agree, they look nice, but how functional can they be if your ass hangs out when u bend over.
I don't know, I prefer my stuff to be baggier. My issue with snowboarding pants (and I think I said this in another thread) is that usually the ones that are in my size aren't long enough, and if I go up a size, the pants are practically hanging off of me. Same issue with jackets, the sleaves are never long enough.

fashion? don't belive in it.
i have Burton Tactic cargos from a few years ago, and my parents got them for me as a christmas gift as last seasons modle at the time. they were the green ones, and the shop rang them up at 2/3 off the regular price becauase black was goign to be the "in" color for that year. and for the jacket i got this hooded black work jacket that i got for 20 bucks. the thing looks liek a snowboard jacket, is water proofed at 10K rating, and pretty much holds up to any **** i throw at it. probably the most fashinable things i have are the beanie my sister knitted for me, Volcom visor beanies (one black and one brown stripped), and then probably my bindings or the black leather belt with gold studs in it.
then on warm days, usually thsi other jacket that i got that is yellow, cream, and grey wiht a blood stain on the left arm from a previouse snowboarding incident.
i could afford to buy all new stuff this year, but i just liek to save money. function over fashion is hwo i do it.

I loved the plaid when I first saw it... I wanted to be like all Buberry fashionable. Then I saw that it was the IN thing..... so I decided against it!
I like plaid, I figured I'd snatch up plaid pants while they were momentarily cool, so I'd have them once they quit making 'em. Maybe I shoulda waited until they were like 90% off though.
PS - why would you want a blazer and tie, is that some new wave snowboarder trend?

yeah, I don't have that kinda patience... I'll probably just rotate them into the lineup. (meaning I'll alternate them with my other pair of pants)

Makes sense actually, metrosexuals drop way more on clothes than skate rat kids.

i haven't seen the catalog, but a whole metro line of cloths? they might as well start sellgin that **** to hipsters though Urban Outfitters. oh wait, hipsters look down upon snowboarders, reason being "they have no fashion sense."

Yeah, well technically they're in the business of selling... although it is definitely a sign that they're not all about the sport - or they wouldn't be marketing to gapers like that....

Ah yes, but should someone start a company with the mission of ripping off the gapers, I wonder if it could really be considered selling out...

I bought 3 pairs of Betty Rides pants 2 jackets, 1 burton set and of course matching beanies for all of my jackets. I usually buy between 1-3 a season.
I guess when I think about it I'm pretty bad, but I don't care I look good!!!!!

i have lots of pairs of board pants cos i love buying them but only two jackets and i've had one of them for 2 years and folk tend to buy hats for me cos i used to have tonnes so folk seem to think i want more
i do buy a lot of hardware though... in the last year... 2 boards, 3 pairs of bindings and 3 pairs of boots but they were all really good deals or in a good sale so its not so bad

I guess you could say I'm a fashion whore. I love the neon stuff. Leg bags, crazy colored goggles, the capix skatecap spray painted all neon kinda like Johnny Miller's, White pants taken in and spray painted all kinds of crazy stencils. I love it all.
