I'm going to be visiting my friend in Lake Tahoe this winter and am trying to find inexpensive places to stay in Squaw Valley. My friend works for the Resort at Squaw Creek, but it's a bit too expensive for me. I've been doing Google searches, but it's hard to tell what's close to the ski area and what's not.

Any suggestions? I can't stay with my friend because she lives 20 minutes away, so transportation would be an issue if she's gone at work.

Thanks!

Are the roads around there generally bare and dry? I hate driving in snow or on ice. In fact, I avoid it at all costs.

uumm depends on the season, and how far into the season you are talking about.. but generally you will hit some snowy roads in the tahoe area... especially after late december/january rolls around, you are bound to have to drive over some snowy roads..

well i usually stay at the best western in truckee-it usually seems to be cheapest and i think if you stay 2 nights you get 1 free, but dont quote me on that... there is a shuttle that will take you to truckee where the train station is- also there is a taxi around there- squaw is not that far from the hotel
