From the Farmer's Almanac for the Appalachian Mountains from VA to NY...
The winter season will be colder than normal, on average, with above-normal snowfall. Most of the snow and cold will come during December and January, when temperatures will be seven or eight degrees below normal, on average. The rest of the season will be much milder, with near-normal temperatures in November and March and a very mild February. The coldest periods will be in mid-December and mid- and late January. The heaviest snow will occur in early and mid-December, mid- and late January, and early March. April will start with a late-season snowstorm in the north, and temperatures will be relatively cool for most of the month

Wow, that sounds like good news... I wonder if the farmer's almanac is usually very accurate.

Who cares.... what a little ray of sunshine in September!
Actually, from what I understand, it's usually very accurate, so we might be in luck this year!

I like the early and mid December snowfall. I think I'd prefer a long season to a heavy powder season. It's bad enough we only get about 3 months of the year to have any fun. If it weren't for this site. I'd be out of my mind.
Yes well, we fools who live in the mid-Atlantic really just need to move somewhere where there's snow.

Me, you and Gerard need to get together this winter... I'm thinking of getting a triple play at Creek.
Sounds like a good plan. I want to get in some Pocono time as well. Otherwise, it just won't feel like winter.

Does it say anything for the NW region (Oregon, Washington)?
Our winter SUCKED last year, one of our ski resorts never even opened!

This is Pacific NW... Winter-season temperatures will be milder than normal, on average, with above-normal rainfall and below-normal snowfall. January will be especially mild, with a couple of sunny periods in midmonth. The best chances for snow are in mid-November and late February. The coldest periods will occur in early and mid-December and late February. The stormiest periods will occur in mid-November, late December, early January, and early and mid- to late February.

Nooooooo! I hate the farmer's almanac - it said it was gonna be warm and not snow much. Stupid damn farmer's almanac, I hate you, die die die.
PS - in case you were wondering, the part of colorado that matters for snowboarding is in the one labeled "intermountain"
The other part of colorado is flat :)

well, it seem liek the lower part of michigan is goign to get the same **** as every year. kinda sucky at first, but good enough to make man-made snow, then it dumps huge for maybe two days, on and off snow to maintain what is there, then it just melts away. season should end about early march again.
how long has it been since u got normal record snowfall?

Well, a few years have been average here - I think the first year I lived in steamboat, the mountain got the average amount of snow... but there have been more dry years than usual lately (although not as bad as that snow drought in the 80's... ugh)
The main thing is, we haven't had any spectacular snow years since I've been living out here again.. maybe I'm jinxing the state.
