I've tried a few demo boards from Ride and Burton, and I think that because I knew the board was expensive, it made me prejudge it, before I tried it.
It'd be interesting to just demo some unfamilir boards, and try to guess what they should cost, based on the experience.
Maybe that expensive board would ride like crap without knowing the hype about its supertech.
Back in the day the first board I had was a Burton Elite. All wood board with just high back piece of plastic for the back of the binding and some web straps to keep you feet in. It had a split tail with a scag on it. Let me tell ya it was loads of fun!!!

Anything Burton (yes, that includes top of the line...) they're like cheap electronics...made so they break after so long... at 650+ a pop...no wonder the pros are rockin fur coats...now that I've chirped 25% of the boards out there, go to my site where we sell only the premiu...well, just kidding;)

Been rockin' Burton since 1991. Had a few others in between, but from experience Burton has impressed me the most. I'm not a stickler for supporting a company for a name, but for me Burton is it. I've liked some Forum and Sims boards, but as far as overall quality, customer service, and personal preference - I like Burton. I was impressed with Morrow in the early/mid 90's, but that went down hill. Santa Cruz and Joy Ride also had quality stuff in '95 and '96.
As far as the worst board i've ever had though - after reading above you may be surprised - Burton Bullet. It was complete ****. And by complete **** - I mean COMPLETE ****.

I heard that Lamar's gear and boards are all pretty bad... like the edges get dinged up easily and they only last one season. Never seen/ridden one, though.

The worst board i've ever ridden was a rental. I had to ride it last season when my class went up 2 Whakapapa for three days.
It had step in bindings which pissed me off the first time I went to try and ride the board cos I didnt know which way was the front and it was snowing quite alot at the time too so I couldn't really see properly. I was there for a good 10 mins *sigh*. ( I figured it out in the end tho) lol
The shop we got the boards from wouldnt give me a board with strap in bindings damnit! Wankers

oh and about the lamar comment, my buddy rode for 6 times and he bailed and 3 of the binding screws stripped outa the holes and one of the little holes came out of the board with the screw so the whole bindings was off and there was a chunk out of the topsheet. ill let u judge quality
