It is stealing from the producers, wholesalers, and the retailers.

Of course I'm serious!!!
Why is it OK for you to steal off of another member of the snowboarding community?
Would you have a cry if someone stole your board? What's the difference?
Why not compensate the people that put their time, effort, and money into producing these products for us to enjoy?
Do you think the producers of these videos mind that you are stealing their hard work without paying for it?
Do you think that the retailers that support this site mind that you are stealing and distributing pirated copies of products they sell?
I don't have a problem paying for these videos, I really enjoy them, and feel that the people that produce them should be fairly compensated by us buying the product rather than stealing it!
Just cause it's easy to steal, it doesn't make it right to steal it!

And I'm not stealing anyones video, we are simply sharing the ones we have.

Why do u think they put out these videos? its not a profit making venture they are used as marketing tools to help hype up the team riders and their signature gear. for example when the first big shorty's vid came out (fullfill the dream) their product sales particularly muska products sky rocketed. Not to mention little peon's like myself could really absolutely care less about copyright laws and the major corporations they protect. whoa that was a mouthfull.

They are produced as a product to sell and make money from.
They are not produced as a free product for general public viewing.
It doesn't matter that you are distributing them for free, the point is that the people that produce it are not receiving any payment for that public viewing, when they are entitled to.

There is a difference between a company produced promo video, that they intend to give away, and the videos produced by these small production companies to be sold for profit.
They are not major corporations, they are small operations of keen snowboarders wanting to make quality videos.

ok im not gunna argue anymore becuase ur ignorance is hiding ur ability to see the truth. i have a fairly extensive knowledge about the the marketing and administration of these companies. Even though it may be against the law and lets be honest with ourselves the company probably doesnt want it, the pirating of a video on a site of this size doesnt matter to the company so my consience is clear.

No, I'm saying that if that is what they are made for, as a promo device for a large company, and for free distribution, then fine. But most of the snowboard videos we are talking about are not made by snowboard companies, they are made by small production teams, to be sold, not given away.

You are the one that is ignorant, blinded by the ease and prevalence of pirating on the internet, you actually believe that you have the right to steal products from others, to use them without paying for them. You seem to think that since it is available as downloadable data on the internet, that using it without paying is not stealing, that it is somehow different to walking into a retail store and shoplifting it. I pity you.
I'll email one of the Absinthe Films crew and see if they want to respond with their thoughts about it.
Why is it so hard to believe that I don't use napster or something...I believe in buying my music CDs and snowboard videos I use, if you don't then you are just a thief.

Then you have a copy of it, to watch whenever you want, where ever you want, and you have not paid for it.
So, just because one person owns it, and you can go to their place to watch it, that makes it OK for you to copy it so that you have it without buying it?

I guess that when I was young and broke, before I had a real job, they didn't have the internet and the means to pirate on a global scale like you can now. It was more copying vinyl onto cassette.

My main thing with it is it makes stuff kinda hard to read sometimes - so you're being lazy with your typing, and making us do more work to figure out wtf you're trying to say!
Did you know that you brain only needs the first and last letter of the word to read it? For example if I siad you lkie to snwoborad in the muontains dwon in the daep porwdr you can read it just fine!!!

09-28-2005, 04:38 AM
More slowly though - and it needs a bit more than the first and last letter. Otherwise you could type **** like "bdft" and expect people to get something out of it.
That's why I get annoyed about the you're your thing though - those are completely different words, so your brain reads the wrong word and gets confused! :)

dog ur not getting it! they dont care about the profit returns they get directly from the video, it is a way for them to get there name and new product lines out there.
I sent an email to Patrick Armbruster, one of the Absinthe Films producers, asking if selling dvds mattered to him, his reply...
HI Simon,
You are totally right, we defenetly depend on our DVD sales and if our expectations come through we will, for the first time in our 6 year history, break even or make a little profit!!!
It’s true that the movies are mostly funded through sponsorship but since we put in all we got and shoot till there is no more snow and just go the extra mile in general...also in spending money we always exceed the budget we have to produce these movies.
Thanks a lot for sticking to our side and keep on purchasing our movies year after year!
Truly one of our best and most loyal customer.
I’ll send you the DVD asap.

This is who you are stealing from when you pirate/distribute/copy these videos instead of buying the legitimate dvd...not from major corporations, but from the snowboarders that make these awesome videos, and have not made a profit in 6 years of doing so.
These videos are produced by very small teams of keen snowboarders, not major corporations. They are not produced by large snowboard companies for promotional purposes. Snowboard companies might use footage from these producers in their promo videos, but when you are talking about snowboard dvds from production teams such as Absinthe Films, Standard Files, Mack Dawg, etc., these are produced by fellow snowboarders.
What you are doing is stealing, even if it is not a physical item from a store, you are preventing these people from receiving the payment they deserve for the hard work and time they put in to produce these videos, videos that you derive a large amount of enjoyment from.
Saying that pirating on a site of this size doesn't matter is a load of crap. The only people that would buy these dvds are keen snowboarders, like the users on this site, not the general public, so even though the users of this site are a small percentage of the total population, they are a much larger percentage of the target market for these products.
If you enjoy the video that you download, go out and buy the dvd, support these keen members of our snowboarding community.
If you think that stealing from other snowboarders is OK, and you can't see that it is what you are doing when pirating these videos, you're ****ing lame!

I really like the word "keen," I should use it more.
PS - I kinda agree with simon here - I don't think it's cool to steal from the smaller independent production companies - if we put them all out of business, we won't have much interesting left to watch.

whooooooo! SBA fight! do u honestly think that these companies need the 25-30 bucks for the video i mean jesus they are making you pay to buy an hour long commercial for their company's latest products.
Could you BE ANY more clueless?
If they don´t sell videos they won´t make ends meet and they´ll have to sleep on peoples floors or quit making videos. Damn you´re stupid!
How come the admin is allowing this?
Some videos are marketing (The Resistance, DC etc), but the filmers / directors rely on royalties to make a living.
Like Neoproto, Robot Food, Whiteout etc, they need to sell videos.

ok im not gunna argue anymore becuase ur ignorance is hiding ur ability to see the truth. i have a fairly extensive knowledge about the the marketing and administration of these companies. Even though it may be against the law and lets be honest with ourselves the company probably doesnt want it, the pirating of a video on a site of this size doesnt matter to the company so my consience is clear.
but seriously i cant believe that u never owned napster or somethin
"cavlax1" you´re truly an idiot. If you have extensive knowledge about this issue, please show me one email from Whiteout, Standard, MDP, Robot Food, Neoproto, Absinthe etc where they say they don´t rely on selling videos and that they´re fine with you sharing and downloading their work.
You mame as much sense as, well you don´t make sense.

My main thing with it is it makes stuff kinda hard to read sometimes - so you're being lazy with your typing, and making us do more work to figure out wtf you're trying to say!
Or your (haha) typing in you´re (so funny) 2nd, 3rd or 4th language... There are about 3 billion internet users that don´t have english as their 1st language and maybe 300 million that do. And if the americans can´t even figure out who not to vote for how can you demand them to know how to spell.
