I think that we got like 2 or 3 inches of snow... Just enough to make the mountain look white.

i shodl pack my **** up after a few years and move to So-Cal. lots of places to work for a union carpenter, plus i an then learn how to surf, and be able to get some good snowboarding in. you just don't get it in michigan unless you are willign to go over to the northwestern half of the state or go to the U.P. the UP is all powder, but there resorts have killer parks

well mammoth did get 609 inches to be exact last year!!! A winter outlook is saying that we are gonna have an extremely wet winter again this year.. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!! SNOW AND LOTS OF IT... So if that is correct, then we will have a early season start and a late season end.... like last year.. who knows we will have to see if mammoth can stay open till JULY 4th again!!! LOL

Loveland and A-basin are at a high enough altitude that they've probably gotten a few dustings of natural snow - the snowmaking thing is a publicity stunt, so they can be the first resorts in the US to open. But hey, their publicity stunt pays off for us!

PS - holy **** 609 inches at mammoth?

Haha Yep... it was an epic year.. there is a sign on the summit of the mountain right off of the Gondola that is 18 feet high, and in march or something like that, you could sit on the top of the sign and strap into your bindings... HAHA

yeah well it looks like alyeska got 640 inches of snow last year...beats you there, and it was a pretty bad year. i was out from snowboarding but i do live around here.i think the average is 631 inches a year actually, up to like 900 at the top according to their website... anyway i just had to mention that to make myself feel cooler. and yeah we are getting some termination dust on the mountain tops...it's not really staying there but it counts as having snowed, right?

hell yea it does!!!

alaska is always cold and snowing!!! LOL '

Mammoth has an average 300 days a year where the wearher is clear and perfect... and well you know what those other days are.. haha

the most snow mammoth has ever had is 617 or 619 inches of snow, and you have to remember.. IT IS IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

karen

true, for california that's pretty sweet.

and i wish it was always cold and snowing in alaska...but our winters just keep getting worse. global warming sucks.

lol yea i will bet it does.. i am sure that you notice it more in alaska too.. It is actually good for us because the warmer water makes for tropical storms which then just DUMPS on our mountains and leaves a foot or more in snow like last season...

karen

lucky....yeah global warming is hitting the north and south poles first, that's why most people aren't paying much attention to it. but i am, and i hate the way people don't try to change it.

anyway in 50 years everyone will be screwed anyway so i guess it doesn't matter.

very optimistic, i know.

SimonInAustralia

I think it will be less than 50 years.

There are simply too many humans on the planet, something needs to be done to reduce global population growth.

karen
10-01-2005, 12:13 AM
agreed. i've read things that predicted about 20 years, but that's just too short of a time frame for my liking, so i'm hoping they're wrong. and yeah, the population is a problem. the only thing that could be done is to sanction the amount of kids people can have and honestly that would be hard to do. unless you just want to kill a bunch of people.

yeah so this started with snow in mammoth and now we are talking global warming. hah.

SimonInAustralia
10-01-2005, 12:15 AM
I think that restrictions do need to be placed on how many kids people can have, no more than one kid per person.

The problem is that the people running things are too invested in big business, where it is all about increasing growth and thereby profit.

karen
10-01-2005, 12:30 AM
that and they think there are "more important" things to worry about at the moment.

the thing that makes me the most mad is that an alaskan senator (a powerful one at that) said that our increasingly bad winters weren't because of global warming, they were just bad luck. it makes me mad because he could actually be doing something about it.
