so my comp has been royally ****ed the past three days. we have oen of those wireless lan connections goign in my house, and sudden;y y computer alone was having problems wiht connecting ot the internet. liek the **** would connect, disconnect, and then reconnect every five minutes. then sudden;y my whole computer locked up and a bunch of programs (AIM, outlook, Mozzila, and otjher key programs) got ****ed up. finally my connection decided to die on me at 10pm at night, and i had to go back and do an entire system restore. tunred out that my wireless ethernet card got hit by a virus a few days ago, so i had to run norton to clean it up. well, it cleaned it up, and then erased all program files for my computer for that application. i spent a good three hours tearing my room apart lookgin for the **** i used to install it, and foudn it at like 12:30 and got everythig re-installed. and thsi whoel experincew has taught me one thing about technology. it sucks

Get Firewall protection. Norton Internet security is good. Also, make sure your Anti-Virus software updates automatically. Anti-virus protection is only as good as the last update.

I have these things in place on my laptop and NEVER have an issue. Sure they cost money, but they are well worth it.

well...i read about it of course.

no seriously... everyone i know comes to me for computer help. so when when a friend or neighbor gets a nasty trojan, virsus, or worm its up to me to rid it. once ur in the system registry u can normally be able to trace it back to the source.

This may be a bit too geeky, but I use a Linux box as the connection to the internet, with the Windows box behind it (the Linux box is the Window's 'default gateway'). Seems to protect the Windows machine from all the nasties out there.

Don't you know Mac users are all hippie-liberal tree-hugging vegetarians who drive around in electric cars? :-)
