Got the gnarly news that steamboat might start making snow next wednesday, if the temps stay low. i won't have to drive to far to board runs anymore!

I hadn't heard a lot about Steamboat untill I came to this site. Everyone here seems to really like it.

I lived there for a few years and really liked the mountain... I always heard they couldn't open early though, because it wasn't in their contract with the forest service - one year they even had several feet of snow on opening day because of this.

I have been there once and it was fun!! But I can have fun on any mountain with snow on it.

yes my town rules. the reason for the contract is because it's National Forest. so we open the day before Thanksgiving and close the 2nd Sunday of April. we sometimes open a couple of weeks early. but because of this like Kelly mentioned, our opening day is always a huge pow day. at least 3-4 feet of untouched fresh. it's funny to see who can't ride pow that deep.

if the snow sits too long it gets really heavy. and we don't like the Sierra Cement here in Steamboat
