Once I get off the lift before my 1st run, I usually try and stretch out my hamstrings and quads.
Does anyone else stretch?

Usually in the parking lot after getting my gear on... hamstrings, quads, calves, lowerback... not too much though... usually not a great idea to stretch out cold.. I repeat stretching after a couple warm up runs...

actually I wouldn't say everyone... the medical field is now saying that stretching prior to an activity does nothing for you. I read an article at my gym that said that muscles return to their natural state within seconds of finishing a stretch. The article does however advicate daily stretching. They said this increases your flexiblity over the long term. They also said there was benifits in post activity stretching becasue it opens up blood flow to tight muscles, if only momentarily, and helps them recharge.

Yea, I rode powder 4 days straight in Whistler a couple years back without exercising. I thought my legs were gonna fall off.
I need to start making this a routine. I mean, more strecthing and using the Bally's 1 year membership I bought a couple days after new years which I have yet to use. Maybe they offer Yoga.

I always forget to stretch. Then I'm sore at the end of the day and I say "next time I'm gonna stretch first". But I never do.
I don't cause I think I should stretch every day and not only just before riding.
When I'm in the parking lot or down the slope I can't control myself anymore anyway lol I only have one thing in my mind: the terrain park.
Stretching after a day snowboarding is good though.

Being in some kind of sports my whole life it's just a habbit but I found the older you get the better it is to stretch. You get less minor injuries if you stretch ie. muscle strains, pulled muscles, muscle cramps, torn muscles. I guess if your young you don't really care but you should make it a habbit.

i almost never stretch before i ride, but it's something i should definitely do, especially before a run in the park. stretching prevents pulling muscles. you may lose 5 minutes stretching before you go, but it beats the hell out of losing WEEKS of snowboarding because you pulled/teared a muscle!
it also makes you less sore the next day if you also stretch after you board.

I stretch, and for the last month or so have been doing yoga several times a week (which I plan to keep doing year-round because it's noticably increased my flexability and balance already).
Going down a run or two to warm up is one thing, but the whole point of stretching is to do it before any intense activity. A run will definitely get you loose just as stretching will, but you still did it while your body wasn't ready, so if you had an accident there would've been that much more risk of an injury. As has been said, it only takes a few minutes.

Well just keep in mind that as you get older, even if you are relaxed, your muscles will probably disagree. So it's a really good idea to get into the habit of stretching now.
Stetching is especially important since snowboarding is a cold weather activity (which has probably been said earlier in this thread). You're more likely to hurt your muscles when you're cold. It's usually a good idea to warm your muscles up first (I used to take a quick, short jog for this) then do a really good stretch. Being limber is good.

I pretty much never stretch. But stretching after is pretty important if you actually do stretch, because your nice and loose, and if you stretch after you will become more felixible faster than you would if you didn't stretch after. It feels better too. I never stretch for snowboarding but I do tae-kwon-do so I always stretch for that, and after it you can stretch like 2 inches farther so deffinitly try to get in that habit if you need to strech anyways much better for your body.

yah i sometimes stretch but hey i just got my first board when do i need wax it?? when the bottom of the board is super thrashed??
no no no. when the bottom of the board is super thrashed you've ruined it, unless you want to get a brand new p-tex (what the base is made of) base, which may cost as much as a new board.
wax it every 2-3 times you go boarding.
if you get a scratch on the base use a p-tex candle, ask a guy at a shop how to use those.

I do stretches on the way up the travellator at my local snow dome. It takes so long to get up there I can fit quite a few calve stratches in as I ascend and watch the other riders going down the slope. Apart from that lifting a few pints in the bar after is about it!

I really can't say i do.
I run during the summer and do kempo-karate, so stretching is a must. For snowboarding it's even more important since ALL of the muscles in your body are constantly under strain, even though u can't really notice it.

I eat two crates of horses every morning before riding.
But for stretching, I do it three times a day (5 to 15 minutes at a time) because I've had so many knee problems and because it was an integral part of recuperating from a herniated disc last summer which threatened my entire season.
When riding, I do the same routine at home before I leave the house, then a shortened routine just before and just after riding. It blows if others have to wait up for me, but I'd rather they ditch me and we catch up later than me not get limber for riding.
