My name is Sam, and I live in Brooklyn,NY.
I recently started snowboarding, and all I can say is to bad I didnt start earlier in life. I wasnt into sports or outdoor activities in my youth(20 now). I recently went through physical therapy for my knees and once that was done in early february I thought I would try my luck at snowboarding. My uncle who has been skiing all his life took me up to Mnt.Creek(browsing your forums, it seems this place is popular). I got their performance package which came with a burton cruzer and step in bindings. I thought this binding design was good, but after using it, its a nightmare. Impossible to get into on the slope, even the bunny slope.
I started on the bunny slope but not the one with that little kiddie walkway lift. I also didnt want to go midway because I was afraid to fall and break myself. So instead I went to the place just to the right of the kiddie hill and walked up and rode down everytime. I know I know, you guys think im crazy for walking up and down but it was one hell of an exersize. Also with all that andrenaline, I wasnt getting tired any time soon. I spent about 3 maybe 4 hours on the bunny hill till I grasped the basic concept of stopping and getting up. I fell so many times I lost count, and how many times I walked up is also an obscene number. After that we went to the top of the mountain where I proceeded to fall some more and once when attempting a toe side stop I fell backwards and hit my head on some ice. That was the first time I fell that day and actually had to stop for a second to think about the pain. I made it down the mountain in one peice but didnt press my luck, I stopped snowboarding after that. We were 30 min from leaving anyway.
Anyway, fast forward to today and I have snowboarded 2 more times. Once in Hunter and once more in Okemo - Vermont. I got a lot better thats for sure, I can stop, link turns, ride switch(normally goofy from my skateboard fad days), jump in place without falling and get off the chair lift without eating snow(this was hard to achieve).
I recently discovered that an organization in NY has weekly trips to vermont, hunter and etc for really good prices which include lift tickets. Also my friends go sometimes.
So I figure I will purchase my own snowboard, bindings, and boots within the coming weeks because the season is ending. It makes sense to own your own equipment if you are planning to snowboard every weekend.
and thats my story, thanks for reading. Its a pleasure to meet you all.
