There's an indoor one in England, they claim to have real snow... it looks good, here's their site:

I haven't been so I don't know what it's like or anything.

Since I happen to live in the Garden State, I will look into it, and then snowboard and be happy.

I worked in a shop last year in NY and had some guy come in talkin about this "indoor mountian" in jersey. He said they were in the process of gettin their investors and paperwork together. He also said they had a grand plan to build more of these indoor mountians around the U.S.
"Ok "Guy!?, i mean it would be cool and **** especiall if we get summer runs in right!? but i have to say i find this one hard to believe.
The Big news that i have heard brewin in here on the east coast. Around Plymouth New Hampshire is Tunny Mountian. They had a big air contest 4th of july last year and had the park open for a good part of the summer. Word is they bought snow makin machines from Japan that can make snow when the temp is under 55.(which it usually is up there thru the end of july) They were supposedly chargin like 20 bills for a hour of ridin to pay off the machines but hey, hittin rails on the east in the summer is like visitin OZ (the one w/munchkins and ****).

They got one in Madrid too, with rails, real fake snow, and a kicker....

I am sure it will be way better in the states, especially with out Freestyle park craze... Or it better be........

yeah its gonna be by the meadowlands in northern new jersey... its not just going to be indoor slopes, its going to be a serious attraction center, almost like a 6flags great adventure or an amusement park along with a serious transportation hub. other plans ive heard was a sky diving simulator.

back to the all year round ridin, cant wait.. i live literally 5 minutes away from there. :D i also work at the meadowlands already so i might even be helpin out building it.. ill keep ya informed.

idk...i guess it would be kinda cool although I can't see it being all that good. I even took the virtual tour of the one in the Holland (posted by katrid123) and I wasn't impressed. I have other things to keep me busy in the summer so I probably wouldn't go that often. Just my opinion

Meadowlands Xanadu - Mills Corp., developers of Madrid Xanadu, have signed an agreement with the New Jersey Sports & Entertainment Authority to develop the first snow dome in the U.S.

I Googled it ....man this is going to be awesome b/c I live like an hour north of NJ!

We have one that just opened here in Auckland.

http://www.snowplanet.co.nz

I went up there the other day. I wasn't expecting much but went to teach my brother. It was actually pretty cool. The run is quite short and they only had one "big" jump which was actually quite small. Even I could do it. They had a few rails and what not set up. If you're into that sort of thing then I guess it could be fun.

The good thing is it is so short that if you want to practice one trick you can really get it dialled cos you get so many more runs in and there is nothing else to do.

I wouldn't go up there to just ride unless I was a beginner but if you want to practice tricks it is pretty good. Good in summer time too but it is quite expensive.

Bring it to Texas where we have no snowboarding whatsoever. You can do everything you want in Texas, just as long as it doesn't involve snow and mountains.

... how big can an indoor mountain be? i mean... the average snowboarding mountain is around the height of one of the fortune 500 company buildings in NYC. Not to mention they're a helluva lot wider. However, it can work if it's just like a skate park, but made of snow. And how much are we talking about $$ wise?

Alright everyone here is the reality of this situation!!
It will deffinatly be a big hit for rich ******** to make more money and will probally lead to some problems along the way but I think it will be good if these hot baby's start popping up all over the U.S and especially the east coast. The only good thing these will be good for though is making year round terrain parks close by becuase let's face it, the runs aren't gonna be good for cruisers like me. I guess these will give me alota time to practice 360's and **** which I rarely try. Just to let ya'll know I live in Virginia Beach, VA and the closest decent park is 7 hours away.

08-17-2005, 03:43 PM
Yea...this indoor snowboarding place is jersey is going to be built in East Rutherford at the Xanadu complex that will be the renovation of the meadowlands. It will have real snow. It basically will be like a giant refrigerator. I've heard that its going to be on the order of more park-based setup. Sorry to the guys that like to cruise. However, i do think that there will be some sort of area that will have a few trails. The area that this complex has is huge. And i also think think that they will definately have some sort of yearly pass because that is a main source of income for these places.

Ok girls, here is the deal with the places in the UK.

Forgive me if I repeat what anyone else has writen as I couldn't be bothered to read all three pages.

We have three (3) indoor slopes in the UK in addition to the thousands of dryslopes and two (2) resorts. There are two (2) companies in on this game: Snowdome and Xscape. Snowdome made the first slope in a small town just outside of Birmingham in the centre of England. This is basically churned up ice to simulate 'snow' on approximately a 300m dog-legged slope. It has 2 rollers in it and is about as steep as a blue run. They have snowboard only nights on Tuesday and Saturday with rails, kickers and music. I have been loads and it is pretty rad, like an icy day in the park basically. There is no need to turn, let alone carve, so this is for low-batty wearing wiggas only.

Here is their site:

http://www.snowdome.co.uk/

The other two (2) slopes are run by a company called Xscape. The slopes are in Milton Kyenes (50 miles north of London) and Leeds (in the North of the country), and these do have 'real' snow. This is, they have an adjustable climate that allows them to defrost old snow and then use snow cannons to replace it. Much better conditions, although it does still get quite icy. Last summer the Milton Kyenes centre had a pipe, so these places are pretty damn versatile. The Xscape centres tend to have kickers made out of snow, rather than dendex (dryslope matting) ramps with snow over. Again Tuesday and Saturday are the nights with rails/kickers etc, however they are 'freestyle' nights, so skiers and (god forbid) snow-bladers are welcome.

Here is there site:

http://www.xscape.co.uk/Default.asp?f=1&

Hope this helps.

Just curious, buffalo new york? If so..why? Buffalo gets all of the snow from the great lakes..seems like a waste of a snow dome to put it where there is snow. I saw pictures online of them digging the hole for the jersey place..hopefully that all works out.

board4life1021
05-20-2006, 11:59 PM
I think the one in Buffalo is more like a sports mall. Its not mainly focused on snowboarding/skiing. Its like one of those in the UK where they have like shops and restuarants, and ice skating rinks inside.

What the hell why bother putting in a snow dome in Buffalo. That city has the worst economy ever and a thriving gangsta population. With Holiday Valley, Bristol, Kissing Bridge, and Holimont all with a half hour 45 minutes why bother. Let alone when the storm fronts that are slightly warm come from canada across the lakes over Buffalo and dump on Colden and Ellicottville those places rock like no other.

Having lived there for 9 years I wouldn't waste my time going to the snow dome except maybe in the summer if they had a park or pipe. But HV has the monopoly on ski clubs for the greater buffalo area which is what pays the bills for any of the ski resorts.

And Honestly I dont think u have any idea how much it costs to go down south. What I like about Xanadu: Indoor Snowboarding is that it gives you a place to ride in the summer. And it also might draw away some of the crowds from Mountain Creek and other ski areas. What I don't like about it is that it might get really crowded lol.

A bro of mine lived in Dubai for a few years, where supposedly the best indoor ski dome in the world is. He's a ripping skier and basically said it was the biggest waste of money he'd ever seen. Crappy snow, long ass lines, really expensive and you're over it after a few runs. He said kids would line up 40 deep to hit the rails they had there.

On a side note there is a "making of the Dubai Ski Dome" on Discovery channel that airs every once in while, which is really cool. It's incredibly tech and insane amounts of money to make.

I hardly see something like that surviving. Even here in UT, Snowbird was open until the end of april and they still had tons of snow. I went a few times in April including the last weekend and it was DEAD! Like maybe five people at the bottom of the lift when you rolled up. Basically once spring rolls around people are in their summer sports mode; skating, boating, biking, camping, etc..

i don't think it will make it either. when they orginal proposed this huge "sports center" it was suppoesed to have all this cool recreational stuff and that is part of the reason it was apporoved in the first place. now they have cut out all kinds of stuff and it is turning into just another mall. figures! :(

VERY SAD. i have known about it for years and have been ANTICIPATING it for years - woulda been ****in wicked.

what also sucks is that i lived in madrid while they were building the one there, but i moved back home just before they finished it.

I'm def not reading through this whole thing, but I looked into this stuff a lot when I was overseas and had nothing better to do last year. There's a lot of indoor resorts in asia and europe, but none yet in the US. One was attempted in Anaheim and it fell through. One was proposed for NJ in or around the Netherlands, but that fell through as well. I think they're trying to revamp it, but it's not looking good.

It sounds cool, but here's some problems with it. If you build it in NJ, it may be cool at first, but what happens in the winter? And can you provide enough variety to keep the experienced boarders and skiers entertained? You'd have to build it somewhere that doesn't really get much snow to actually attract people (like India did), but where? Is it worth trying to make one down south or did all those floridians and stuff move there cause they don't like the cold/snow?
