A Lanesborough teen died Sunday afternoon from a snowboarding accident at Jiminy Peak.
15-year-old Alexander Bashara was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Witnesses say the boy lost control and went off the trail over a steep embankment. His body hit a tree. Medical examiners say he suffered traumatic head injuries, despite wearing a helmet.
Bashara, was the son of Lanesborough Police Chief F. Mark Bashara.
The teen had just been a part of a snowboarding competition at Jiminy Peak. He was also an instructor at the mountain.

You should be ashamed of that comment. Not something to joke about.
He must have gotten pretty out of control if he was a rider good enough to be competing and instructing.

its a shame when people die on mountains. mt baker got a bunch of snow this year and weve had 3 deaths on the mountain. 2 of them were in bounds too.

My sister told me a story like this last year. She lives in Lake Tahoe and a 14 year old boy overshot the landing by something near 90 feet and died on impact. thats really really sad.

damn, 90 feet. He must've been haulin ass. Did he just die from hitting the ground or hitting something?
well, good rider or bad, its not that hard to lose control if all the right things go wrong. and the better you are that just means the fasster ur going when it happens.
just the other day i was headed back to the #8 lift and on the last 200 ft. over the moguls my goggles slid up where the foam was over my eyes and i tumbled nearly to the bottom. and anyone that knows mt.baker knows thats not even a slightly hard run...

That's pretty crazy, but like someone said, you risk death every morning you wake up, especially if you're hittin the slopes. As for the kid that over shot the jump by 90 feet, that just doesn't seem like there was any common sense in that one. But the most recent accident, anyone can lose control. Doesn't matter how good you are, if something goes wrong in the wrong situation you're screwed. Make sure you ride safe, but things like these should never stop anyone from pushing the limit, you always have to in order to keep snowboarding alive.

yea that happend like a few weekends ago but it really sucks cause i knew him personally and he was a really great and smart kid, and you hear alot of things about people getting seriously injured and dieing on th mountain but you really dont think much of it until its someone you know then it is like woah, its a realy hard feeling to describe. and also earlyer in the season my old 6th grade tech. teacher went off a trail at jiminy peak and hit a tree and is paralized from the lower chest down, so alot of people got seriously injured and killed at jiminy this season, and it sucks

That's crazy that he was 15 and an instructor. What state was this in, anyway? I don't think the article specified. So sad though. What's up with all our youngest recruits getting killed!

My son just turned 14 and I cannot think of something like this happening to us. I feel for the parents, it would hurt to loose a child like that.

You know it's always sad when anyone young or old gets hurt doing something they love. I actually think there are more and more situations like this happening, it's just coming to light now. Like someone said you take a risk every day you get up and you can't predict what is going to happen. All you can do is try to be as safe as possible.
God Bless all of those who have lost their lives in a sport that is loved all many!!
