Its all about commitment man, jsut like santacruzrider said, once u decide to hit it its jut ballz to tha wall. If its a matter of not knowing how much speed then check out the other kids hitting it and see where they start from and how fast they are going.

and make sure ur board is waxed too cause that will make u go faster

If a jump has you spooked, try going off the ramp at an angle so you don`t have to worry about landing on the flat table top. As you keep hitting it, you will gain confidence and eventually bo ok with trying to clear the table top and landing on the transition. Couple of things...speed check prior to riding up the ramp and keep your board flat going up....this is to prevent you from tearing up the ramp for other users. Also, if you can grab indie...this will keep you balanced and more stable on the board.

No worries...in no time you will be doing it like a pro! A month ago I could not jump over a golf ball without falling over......LOL! Your riding is great...just takes time.

It's just all about becoming comfortable. I was like that before, but then I had a couple of friends to follow through the terrain park. They were doing the big hits, but I was jumping to the side. Then one run, I got to the top of the hits, and I said "Dan, you can do this. Just glide through the air with your speed land straight, and be ready for the next one."

Turned down the mountain and next thing you knew, I was at the bottom with a huge grin on my face because it was the most fun I had snowboarding ever.

a sugestion is not to go off the side of the jump. it REALLY annoy's people ALOT!!!! my advice is just find out how much speed you need put on some good pump up music and go for it. youll be fine, trust me if you can hit a jump you can hit any jump. thats how i hit my first 50 footer with some pressure from my friend annoying me but still. its not as bad as you think, just go for it and then youll be fine

Definately hang-out and watch some other people hit it so you can gauge how much speed your gonna need. make sure you are comfortable on smaller jumps first(no rolling the windows up). Take a deep breath and commit to it straight line it at the jump maybe a few quick set up turns and fly........so fun. Once you clear it the first time your fears will go away.

Dont worry about other people.....this should`nt make any difference as long as you are not turning on the ramp. What pisses people off is when you speed check or turn on the ramp as this gouges it up. Simply going off diagonally makes NO difference. In fact, it is far better than going slow, straight over the jump and then making a crater on the flat. Also, if you fall, you are already out of the way as park rats rarely pay attention to park ettiquette and will be right on your ass as you go.

If you just go fast one time and then make the gap, you will be able to do it everytime after that without being scared because you know the right speed.

try taking friends through the park and make a line with a 1 second or less gap in between you (like saying one- one thousand then following). If you are having trouble, make sure you take the front or middle, you wont have trouble committing with three people on your trail.

speed check at the top of the hill, not before the jump, number one thing people do is speed check before a jump too hard cause they can't commit, don't think about the jump, that is natural (more or less) think about yuour speed and your balence as you leave the jump. You'll be sailin 40ft'er in no time.

not smart unless you want to get injured and spend 1+ seasons sitting at home hearing how your friends learned to do backflips

Good point...I see people do this and then not have enough speed to even make it to the top of the jump....instant gridlock!!!

You just cant think about it. You cant let your nerves take over. If you sit at the top of the hill and think about whether you want to hit a jump or not your nerves will take over. I had the same problem. If you dont think about whether you want to go off the jump or not before you try, your nerves dont have time to catch up with you. and trust me, after you hit and land the jump, its all worth it

don't speed check for jumps. Speed checkin on jumps is dumb, because you usually set up at a good place but then ya think your going to fast and do some speed checks and what you don't realize is the jump is going uphill, which means you'll go even slower and end up going right back down the jump. basically if your doing spins you just carve off the top of the jump, and if your doin straight airs don't turn. remember NO SPEED CHECKS.

Lol ok first… let the instructors give the tips on this one. You two are going to get someone killed. =P

This is an OLD topic so I wont spend much time on it. The first thing you need to remember is stay in your ability. That doesn’t mean just keep jumping the same old baby table or what not, but don’t jump from 20’ tables to 60’ transition gaps…

What the one kid said about getting the willies… yeah that’s true… I still do that when I’m working on big / new tricks… My brother will be standing there knowing what I’m thinking and just say “fuk it, go”

But before you get to that point here are a few tips.

First… Ride with people that are BETTER then you. Your little group of High School buddies where you’re the leader of that pack with, are not going to push your ability.

Second… ASK and then FOLLOW one of these better riders down… stay to the side of them and try and match their speed, see how fast they are going off the lip and see if where they are landing is the same as where you wish to land.

Last… when you are in the air TUCK UP. You don’t have to throw in a grab, but tucking will make your body more stable in the air and cause less rotation variants in case you came off the lip funny on your first time.

The rest you know… ride with someone, check your landings, check your take off, and check your equipment, and have fun.

Great advice Dragon as usual! Also, I would add...take into consideration the conditions. It is much safer to push yourself really hard when it`s a soft pow day. You will learn a lot more when you`re not dealing with the very real danger of serious injury from hard snow or ice.

If a jump scares you air over it a few times to see what its lke untill your confident on it, then vision it happening, commit, BE SAFE, and go!
