Ok, heres my problem... Ever since my lil bro got XBox live, we have been havin problems w/ our IP Address's, even when it isnt hooked up... My laptop is the only computer running wireless, and its basically the only computer expierencing the problems. Just about every time I finally get online, within minutes usually, Ill get a pop up notice saying there is a IP Address conflict on the network. All the computers are set to automatically obtain the IP Address, so I have no clue what to do? And usually when this happens, Ill get up and unplug the router, and everything works fine untill it happens again, usually within minutes. Any help is much appreciated!:high5:

What devices are plugged into your router. Please list everything (wireless and wirelessly) connected to it.

turn your SSID off and set up your MAC filtering on the router and maybe try manually setting your IP address instead of having it set to obtain automaticly.

As of right now, laptop is wireless, and then 2 desktop pc's are plugged directly into the router via ethernet cables... and then of course the cable line and power cord running into it. It is a Netgear router if that helps. I do not know how to go in and mess with it, and only thing I could think of was to hit the reset button? And E, I have not a clue what you just said.

I don't have an xbox so im not sure if DHCP assigns a local IP address to it, or how you configure an xbox for that matter. If your xbox does work with DHCP and your laptop's TC/IP configuration is set up to obtain IP address automatically, then you can do the following when you recieve that message:

1. Click Start>Run to bring up the Run window.
2. Type "cmd" without quotation marks in the text box and hit ok. This should open the command line window.
3. Type "ipconfig /release" without the quotation marks and hit enter. That will release your current local IP.
4. Now type "ipconfig /renew" without the quotation marks and that will renew your IP information and assign you an address not in use.

This should fix your problem, assuming that your routers DHCP is configured right and working correctly. You could also setup static local IP's manually as e. stated.

And E, I have not a clue what you just said.

go into your router settings by typing in your IP address into the address bar of your web browser. for example, 192.168.1.1
Once your in there will a few tabs or links and you can mess with whatever looks appealing.

If you have not done so yet, change the username and password and turn on the encryption to the desired level.

the important settings we are looking is your MAC Address filtering. type in the MAC address to the wireless card you are using. the MAC address can be found by...Start/Run/ then type "cmd". a little black window will appear. then type "ipconfig/ all" we are looking for the MAC or Physical Address under wireless network connection. it should be 12 digits long. enter that into your router as an allowed MAC Address.

also, you might want to turn the SSID Broadcast off too. this way the router will not broadcast your wireless ID, meaning when you View Wireless networks in your neighborhood networks yours will not appear.

this should be enough. normally when i see there the message about there being a conflict with an identical IP address its when im stealing internet from someone elses wireless connection.

if this doesnt work then try manually setting each ip address for each machine. to do so...
start/my network places/network connections. right click on wireless network connections and go to properties. click on the general tab and scroll down to TCP/IP, highlight and click on properties. click use following IP address and enter a valid ip address with in your routers IP address peremeters. for example, if your ip address to the router is 192.168.1.1 then enter for the ip address of the machine to be 192.168.1.2 now if you have more then one machine on the network the next machines ip can be 192.168.1.3 and etc.
for the subnet mask just use 255.255.255.0

Thanks for all info, and there are some nice helpful tips there e, but I talked to a guy from road runner last night, who was very nice and helpful, and we came to the conclusion, that our router is only givin out 3 Ip addy's, and w/ the xbox, we were tryin to run 4, so we configured the router to dish out more... and I now know how to get into my router:)

1. walk to brother's room.
2. Kick his ass
3. Tell him he's a pansy, he's adopted and mom doesnt love him.
4. unplug his Xbox Live.

See. I solve all problems.
