I actualy have never heard of someone riding like exact opposites like you are, 12/-12. I wanna know what point does being duck not help anymore.

SimonInAustralia
06-21-2005, 11:09 AM
Works for me, just seems more natural, if I am just standing normally without being on a snowboard my feet are in a duck position at similar angles, it just seemed to make sense to setup my snowboard like that. When riding switch my stance is the same as my normal stance, it wouldn't seem right to me to be riding switch with out being mirrored duck stance. If I had a normal forward +/+ stance, then when riding switch my feet would be pointing backwards, it just doesn't make sense to me.

yea i ride 15 -15 too and my stance is as wide as possible im riding a 155 and im like 5'6"-5'8". i agree its easier to rise switch when your feet are exact opposite

I am riding 15 -7, I stand somewhat wide too. It's a much more comfortable stance for me to ride with. I may actually turn my back foot more next season and do a 15 -15.

at the mo i am riding +15 -18 i think, ...it may be the other way around though, my friend tried it, but just couldnt get used to it, so he went back the the regular stance. i cant wait to get back on a board now, i havn't been for so long ROLE ON SATURDAY!!! :D

Is this information I should know? Honestly, I've never changed my bindings from how they were set up in the store...pretty parallel I guess, not so ducky.

Now I have to go out to the garage and look at my board and try to make sense of this...

gerard
06-21-2005, 09:23 PM
yeah, I mean knowing your stance and playing with it may help. Different stances may help you snowboard better. I think the default from the store is usually 15 0

but im thinking i need to go +12/-5 cos i feel boot going tht way whenever i bind in. ive seen some really parallel ones and hve heard heaps tht its better boing parallel than duck.

SimonInAustralia
06-22-2005, 01:28 AM
I checked it today, I'm actually riding +9/-9, not +12/-12...not much difference anyway.

Like most things I guess it's personal preference.

This webpage has a detailed discussion of stance angles...
http://www.cs.uu.nl/~daan/snow/stance.html

I also have a lot of forward lean set on my bindings, I find it gives more responsive heel edge turns, keeps your knees bent, and reduces 'chatter' on your heel edge. I have it set to about 22 on my C14 bindings, which I guess is 22 degrees.

snowboardnguy90

i ride like 20, 5. Lol kinda like racing style cuz i don't ride too much switch, if i do i normally just do a 180 or sumthing to change back. Bad habit i know... but a slightly forward stance lets u cruise better and u can turn SO much easier.

ltsnowboarder15
06-22-2005, 06:25 AM
Ya i dont have a forward lean. Most of the time i have a little lean in the back just cuz i ride pow the most and you gotta be on ur tail a lot so its easier to set you bindings back a little in pow.

Aside from keeping the front and back mirrored angles, It's all personal preference.

snowboardnguy90
08-08-2005, 03:53 AM
the distance of ur feet depends on how long your legs are, as well as ur personal preference. Same with angles. Sum ppl naturally walk duck footed, so their angles are farther apart. And, if sumone walks with their feet parallel or inward (odd, but i've seen it), then their feet would be at smaller angles. Although i do agree that it's best to have the same angles on both feet to ride switch best.

i need to check my stance width again. i think i was on either a 24" or 25", just because i am tall. and i'm tryign to get my highbacks on my new Missions rotated so they are parallel wiht the heel edge, but the little tabes that connect to the base feel way stiff when i rotate then and try screwing them back into place and dpn't want to flex into position. it's ticking me off a little, and it's because i got this feelign i don't have them aligned right to screw back in.

probably jsut a materials issue. theer are a few ways to fix it using heat, liek a hair dryer or boiling water (liek i used to do with mini hockey sticks when i was younger), but that could all go sour really quick and then i'll be lookfin for new bindings the second tiem this season. i guess i'm gonna have ot keep workig on them till they go into position

look on your heel cup. there should be screws that hold your high back one. take them out and rotate your highback to match the heeledge, then screw it back together. this way you're using the entire highback instead of just a part of it. it also lets your ankles roll from side to side better. more control and less energy used

kelly
10-07-2005, 03:59 AM
Interesting... I looked at it, and there are a bunch of screw holes in the heel cup, so it looks like it should be pretty easy to try... makes sense though, now that you mention it! Thanks!

You don't have to take them all the way out on all bindings...on Burton bindings you just need to loosen them off.

thedude
10-07-2005, 04:25 AM
yeah man, i've tried only loosenign them, i've tried takign the hwoel thing off and readjusting them, but the damn tabs with the screw holes in them are stiff as hell. i sat here for one weekend, and every moment i wasn't at work, i was tryign to rotate the high backs, and thsoe bitches wree nto goign anywhere. they are killer bindings, but just this one thing that shouldn't be that hard to do is drivingme up the wall.

SimonInAustralia

I started riding with a +15, +5 goofy. I changed a couple of seasons ago to +18, -9 for park riding. I noticed that my heelside turns aren't as smooth as they used to be, but my riding switch has really improved.

I think duckin' it out helps my heelside because I can reall squat into the turn and flex the board.

isn't it awkward when you're riding switch if you have a forward stance?

JesterBOOM
04-10-2006, 08:37 PM
i'll assume you're talking to me, since im the only person here that has that forward stance.

Yes, i find it very annoying when im riding switch, however, the only time i ride switch is when somehow, i've screwed up and i end up backwards.

I really dont bother riding switch, as I dont bother doing any type of tricks that would need me to land backwards.

plus, riding at my extreme angles allow me to really get into my carves

+15, -9 right now, but I am still tweaking it. My wakeboard stance is +17, -17 I was surprised to find out snowboard stances are different. I guess it has to do with weight distribution

i don't know which ways positive and negative are, but if it's the same as a number line (negative is on the left and positive is on the right?), then i gots a 21" stance i belive, and 21 on my left and -15 on my right foot. i think it's a set back stance as well, it looks weird sometimes.

Ok, I need someone to explain something to me.

As far as I can tell looking at the two sets of bindings I have, they really only lock in properly every 3 degrees, so how are people getting numbers offa that? Different bindings? Just jamming the teeth down? What?

TheShizNizzle
08-11-2006, 01:56 AM
most bindings can only be set in intervals of 3 degrees, but some are different. its pretty simple

ok do you guys move the highbacks parallel to the board or just leave it at the setting your bindingd are at? and where do you measure from when measuring stance width. my settings are 15, -15

santacruzrider
11-13-2006, 01:34 AM
i make my highbacks parallel to the board. and you measure your stance width from the middle of each binding

I ride Burton bindings, which have binding angle positions every 3 degrees.

I notice a lot of people have angles that would not fit into the Burton 3 degrees per position settings.

What angle increments do bindings from other companies use?

3 degrees. it's just how you want to read it. cause all you really see is
0 | | | | 15 | | | | | 30 blah blah blah

SimonInAustralia

3 degrees. it's just how you want to read it. cause all you really see is
0 | | | | 15 | | | | | 30 blah blah blahNope, it is not how you read it, it is only possible to set the Burton angles to multiples of 3 degrees...e.g. 0-3-6-9-12-15-18-21-24-27-30.

I was wondering if other bindings have this same system, or something different.

I guess they must be something different, as people are quoting different angles to these.

stepchild_shreddah
01-03-2007, 08:02 PM
every set of bindings i've had go up by 3°, but i've mostly only had technines.

SimonInAustralia

every set of bindings i've had go up by 3°, but i've mostly only had technines. That's what I was wondering...
A) if all bindings use 3 degrees, and the people mentioning angles not in increments of 3 degrees don't know what they are talking about.
or
B) bindings from other manufacturers use different increments, or maybe no increments at all and can be set to any angle.

toeknee
01-03-2007, 08:54 PM
or c) it looks like the arrow that is pointing to your angle is right in between the |'| so it's not exactly a 3rd degree increment?
