Alright, so I went to Best Buy and ended up buying a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO router and PCMCIA card.

Went through the installation exactly as told and get an error during installation that my computer cannot communicate with the router (awesome). So, after trying a few things I called tech support.

After having me try a few things, tech support tells me that there is a problem with my network card and I need to have it looked at. By this time I was frustrated with the guy and didn't feel like arguing with him. How can there possibly be something wrong with my network card when it gets me online just fine without the router inbetween my modem and my computer??

Would you:

A) Call tech support back, tell them they're a bunch of idiots, and ask for an intelligent solution (i know, fat chance)
or
B) Return the router and get a different brand
or
C) Is it really possible there's something wrong with my network card? (I doubt it, but I don't know everything)

Suggestions?

i doubt there is something wrong with your network card. if you can connect to internet through modem, you should certainly be able to connect to router. (make sure when you plug in to your ethernet card, that the LED's light up affirming that it detects a connection)

have you went into command prompt and see if you have a connection w/ router by typing in ipconfig? it should either say something for gateway or be blank. if it is blank then somehow there is no router detected.

if it doesnt work that way, then just return it for a linksys. i have a WRT54G w/ HyperWRT +tofu firmware. works perfectly and no hiccups.

never trust the tech support people for any brand other than linksys. they really don't know what they're talking about.
