WASHINGTON (AFP) - The administration of
President George W. Bush is planning a massive bombing campaign against
Iran, including use of bunker-buster nuclear bombs to destroy a key Iranian suspected nuclear weapons facility, The New Yorker magazine has reported in its April 17 issue.

The article by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh said that Bush and others in the White House have come to view Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a potential Adolf Hitler.

"That's the name they're using," the report quoted a former senior intelligence official as saying.

A senior unnamed
Pentagon adviser is quoted in the article as saying that "this White House believes that the only way to solve the problem is to change the power structure in Iran, and that means war."

The former intelligence officials depicts planning as "enormous," "hectic" and "operational," Hersh writes.

One former defense official said the military planning was premised on a belief that "a sustained bombing campaign in Iran will humiliate the religious leadership and lead the public to rise up and overthrow the government," The New Yorker pointed out.

In recent weeks, the president has quietly initiated a series of talks on plans for Iran with a few key senators and members of the House of Representatives, including at least one Democrat, the report said.

One of the options under consideration involves the possible use of a bunker-buster tactical nuclear weapon, such as the B61-11, to insure the destruction of Iran's main centrifuge plant at Natanz, Hersh writes.

But the former senior intelligence official said the attention given to the nuclear option has created serious misgivings inside the military, and some officers have talked about resigning after an attempt to remove the nuclear option from the evolving war plans in Iran failed, according to the report.

"There are very strong sentiments within the military against brandishing nuclear weapons against other countries," the magazine quotes the Pentagon adviser as saying.

The adviser warned that bombing Iran could provoke "a chain reaction" of attacks on American facilities and citizens throughout the world and might also reignite Hezbollah.

"If we go, the southern half of
Iraq will light up like a candle," the adviser is quoted as telling The New Yorker.

Ok i don't like GWB just as much as the next person but the thing is that the nuclear weapons plans were secret under the US and Soviet Union before it became Russia. During the cold war Soviet Union sold those plans to other communist countries. Now countries like North Korea and Iran have the plans for them and have started to make them. The leaders in both countries have great hatred for the US which makes us a prime target for a nuclear attack. How safe do you feel about a country full of American hating citizens that have nuclear weapons aimed for the United States?

Dont buy into the rhetoric...it is our constant tampering with the affairs of other countries that causes hatred...besdies this has nothing to do with whether or not they intend to make a nuclear weapon...it is all part of the PNAC strategy to dominate the entire globe.

I like to keep up with the world and things that will effect my future. Not saying everyone else doesn't. I just like to see what everyone else is thinking about stuff I find intresting. Just something to talk about.

Yeah i understand why they hate us. And actually it is about that they plan to make nuclear weapons. so where are you getting this information about world domination?

Okay you start off on the wrong foot right out of the gate....We dont KNOW that they are trying to build a bomb....Bush insists they are....kinda like he insisted Iraq had a nuclear program, then a chemical program, then a bio program, then it was....ugh liberating the Iraqi people.....how many lies does it take to get through to you?????? If CIA operative Vellerie Plaim`s cover was not blown by Cheney in order to get even with ambassador Joe Wilson, we would still be getting good intelligence out of Iran about just that as she was the key operative inside Iran....the CIA says that act has set back America`s intelligence gathering effort at least a decade.....also, even if they are trying to get the bomb....at minimum they are 5 to 10 years away from that...also, you don`t get answers in a war zone Iraq should have taught you that......but anyway, here is some of the info once again....you might try reading some of the threads for this stuff already posted.....

Here is the neocon thinktank that Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Pearl and others are members of and this outlines their agenda for "Pax Americana" the total world domination by America or rather several large corporations which run the American government....very frightening stuff in here!

If you do not beleive our government is so rotten that it would do something like stage 9-11 read these documents. This site contains ACTUAL photoscanned de classified military documents outlining a series of proposed staged terrorist attacks by the CIA and blamed on Cuba to anger the American people and congress into invading Cuba. This letter was delivered to Secretary of State Robert Macnamera under John F. Kenedy in 1962 by a Joint Chief of Staff. Kenedy fired this individual soon after. As we all know, Kenedy did not live past 1963

We seem to willing to negotiate with North Korea precisely because they have got the wepons and have shown a willingness to use them.....we want to invade Iran even though they don`t have the weapons.......if I was Iran, I would be very motivated to get the bomb as a deterent to US agression.

About Iran`s nuclear program:

Currently they have just announced they have enriched Uranium....everyone is going bananas due in part to the Bush administrations fear mongering....but here are some facts about Iran and nuclear weapons from the IAEA.

Currently Iran has about 164 cetrifuges and has enriched Uranium about 3.5% basically enough to make Irridium that was used in old glow in the dark watches. In order to get fissionable U235 for a crude atomic bomb, they would need to get Uranium enriched to about 80% and would need about 1600 cetrifuges. The IAEA estimates that the earliest they could concievably have a crude atomic bomb is at least 10 years off. Simply put, even IF Iran was intent on making weapons not nuclear energy, there is NO urgent need to use military force (conventional or tactical nuclear) any time soon. This is once again part of the overall PNAC strategy for global domination....key to this is a permanent US military presence in the middle east and total control of the oil reserves. Bush is turning this great country into a rougue state.
