I was adjusting my bindings tonight and, to be honest, it's the first time I've ever played with them. A friend put them on for me, and my stance was a little wide, so I wanted to bring them closer together. Fine, I got the angles, got the toe pad adjusted, blah blah... What I'm curious about is this, how do you gauge the best position for your foot across the board. i.e. should your foot be centered across the board or should you have more on the heel side or vice versa?

Oh, and I'm only doing this to torture myself since I probably won't be able to ride anymore this season.

I don't really know- i've always had the heel pointing in, simply because i find it more suitable. I have no clue, but i think its just how you feel about it.

I think it's more of how things feel to you. I just tried a bunch of different settings till I got one that I felt I have the most control with.

Huh? I'm prob misunderstanding ur question, but, by adjusting ur angles, that affects the position of ur foot..?

Like, I ride duck.. at 12, -6.. so my heels are turned inside.

Oh, wait.. u mean the binding itself? Aren't u limited by where the holes are? Or can u silde urs front to back? I'd say u wanna be centered, n u don't want ur toes hanging over too much.

Of course, it's whatever is most comfortable to u tho.

I can slide my bindings front to back, I just centered them. That seemed the best. It looks like I have as much toe as heel hanging. And it really isn't much to worry about.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Here's a great website that tells you everything you need to know about binding angles and snowboard stances, including where you should position your bindings in relation to the width of the board.

http://www.cs.uu.nl/~daan/snow/stance.html

Hope this info helps!

Thanks. That's the most helpful piece of information I've read about this.

its always usually more or less person preference. if youre more toward the front, then youll probably find yourself leaning backward more and vice versa if youre in the back. ive heard that you should position yourself in the back to help with going through powder, but i dont have much experiance going through powder so i wouldnt know.

i just like keeping em in the middle, you can do a lot of things from there...

Thanks, that was very helpful to me, since I'm new to snowboarding and I didn't really understand all this stuff. :)

A foot, within the binding, and the binding shoudl be centered on the board.

It allows you as a giant lever to bring the board to edge a lot simpler, and with more ease than if you placed the board either with too much heal, or too much toe.

Ex. Place the binding, and thus your foot, with more heal than toe, and you will find that bringing yourself, along with your board towards the toe edge will be FAR more difficult than bringing it to heal edge.

Ideall you want to creat the least amount of effort, or rather, the same amount of effort for yourself to either heal edge or toe edge.
