View Full Version : Ipods Blow....Get Creative Zen Micros!

hiya!

im sick of Ipods dominance for an inferior product!

Mine broke....friends have broken...my mums broke.....Itunes is a right little hitler program telling you what you can and cant do.

Anyway i swapped over to a Creative micro Zen last year and little fella is still going strong! the standard head phones even offer a bit of bass unlike the pod ones!

Seriously next time your pods bust, consider a Creative Zen Micro seriously there'll surprise you!

p.s. there also good for snowboarding as if you carry it in the nipple pocket of your jacket they dont bust when u go face first!!

My ipod has never busted nor have my friends. iTunes doesn't bother me one bit.

I and just about everyone I know who has a mp3 player has an ipod. We're all happy with ours. I've taken mine snowboarding with me and I fall a lot. It hasn't broken yet, and I'm a pretty fat bastard falling on it.

my old ipod was a piece of ****, a 40 gb second generation or something...maybe 3rd...the battery died after like 2 hours and it was otherwise bad. then, i got an ipod video. haha. it works better i have to say....and i got it for free because my uncle works for apple, but if that wasn't the case i might look into something else next time.

my ipod is my friend...i can take it every where...lame classes, work, the gym, boarding...it is great...if i am mad...it also is mad, if i am happy it is chipper...but then again anything that would hold all my music would be the same way....oh well, i like my ipod.

Ipods are great from what I hear....but if you`re on a budget, I love my RCA Lyra...it was $49.00 at Wally World and holds the super cheap SD media cards any size Takes a AAA battery that lasts about 14 hours of play time. The thing is bullet proof and no spinning hard drive. The thing I like about it is you plug it in to your computers USB port and it shows up as an external drive...you just drag and drop the MP3 files and its done no conversions, no fuss...take extra memmory cards too....although on my 1GB SD card I have about 200 songs at CD quality so plenty of music for a few days riding.....anyway a cheap solution and if you do loose it in the pow or break it, you don`t have to open a vein cause it its cheap.

i have a Shuffle, and that compleatly crashed on me...for no apparent reason. i dunno, but i really love iTunes, and the way it works, can you use other mp3 players with iTunes? frankly, i hate windows media player, and most other media players...

I'm a big fan of Itunes as well. windows media player and realplayer just suck.

I have a shuffle, and have it in my frotn pants pocket. Never had anything go wrong with it yet, pluss the battery lasts forever and only takes like an hour to charge.

I think I got an extra special battery or sumthing. seriously, it lasts like 20 hours.

Ipods are worthless crap. Join the apple cult! I find it funny that people with Ipods are so defensive about them. Itunes is a worthless program which has so many scripts embedded into it. Good luck when every single song and everything you do with your Ipod is recorded and sent to apple. If they are ever down on $$ they can sell the list to RIAA and take a part out of your fine.

With so many other great alternatives from creative, SanDisk, etc. I still find it amazing that people fall into the marketing scheme so easily. www.pricewatch.com go look at the alternatives.

Oh and when you Ipod fanatics' batteries die... remember they are not replaceable. Ha! GG apple... way to have a continuous customer base.

real MP3 players dont need extra programs to transfer songs... Real MP3 players act like what they are, removeable disks...

sensa e250 half the price of a nano and 10 times better.

Never had an IPOD, so I'm not about to dis. HOWEVER, I freakin' LUV my Sony Minidisc! It's the HiDef version so the disks themselves can hold up to one Gig. It also uses a single 'AA' battery so the battery life is pretty good (and with rechargeables, there's no extra cost). For me this was a big selling point, having known a few ppl who got hosed with the non-replaceable IPOD batts. Also, they are really unlimited as far as space - when you fill up one disk, you go on to the next - none of that transferring back and forth to your harddrive to change songs or free up space. The hi-def disks will hold about 40 full length songs so it I can usually go all day on one disk. PLUS - you can get minidisks that will record & edit live music as well as support picture and video files to be saved on the disk (yeah, you still gotta watch them from the computer, but then you get a full sized screen). Just my thoughts...

i have a 3rd generation ipod and i love that thing. i take it everywhere. mine is getting a bit dated, so when it busts i'll probably replace it with a video ipod.

with the video ipods (well, all of the harddrive based ipods) you can run linux on them... you can run all sorts of games (simple ones) but i've seen pacman, galaga, etc. you can change the screen and interface... i think that's kinda neat.

re: the battery thing... the battery is replaceable, but not just any moron can do it. it requires some work, and i'm sure it voids the warranty, but there are better batteries than the ones apple makes that sell for a lot less than having apple replace the battery.

i may be a bit biased because i'm part of this "apple cult" and all of the computers i use at work and at home are macs... but almost everyone i know, whether or not they use other apple products, love their ipods.

i love my RCA Lyra also. After i lost my dell jukebox on hellgate at hunter mountain i was pissed. i was also on a budget. my moms friend works at radioshcack and said these things are just as good as ipods are. to make a long story short, buy a LYRA!!!

yes you can take replace the battery... and you have to sever it from the motherboard of the Ipod... so good luck with that. I'm talking about replacing my Li battery by removing a couple screws.

nope... i'm a graphic designer. and i choose to use a mac (G5)... we have 3 macs here for the designers, and all the rest of the machines are PCs... and whaddaya know, IT is never coming to fix our computers! and when i get home, i get to use my G4 powerbook. i wouldn't want to use anything else. i used a PC for 11 years before switching (but i still have to use them from time to time currently) - assembling, disassembling, building them from scratch... command line DOS, windows starting with 3.1 until XP... full on nerd status. and i know better now. but i'd really much rather not get into some debate about PCs vs macs, because both of them are good in their own ways.

Damnit i hate you, I was hoping you wouldnt mention graphic design or video editing. =( because yeah, I have a duel G5 for my business... i dont admit it, but when you're using it to make $$ you have to get what works best, and you really cant touch a mac when it comes to those things.

I have a Creative (maybe it's that zen stuff?). It's pretty decent, but I wish it held more songs (usually 50+/-). I haven't used out on the slopes yet, but I've dropped it, stepped on it, flung it, etc, and it's held up  I love it's size too. Do Ipods let you listen to the radio too? I was wondering that since I got my Creative, which does.

i've had one of those... i fell on it and pretty much gave myself a deadleg for a week and it broke but the sonic stage program sucks assssssss!! cause you can't move music ne where else on your harddrive so when i broke it i tried to get another one but had to get a shuffle instead which is pretty sweet i had one break but it was my computers fault and i got another one and the same thing happened but i figured out how to get it to work but it was a best buy so the original one was a 512 mb one and i got an upgrade to 1 gig cause by that time it was the same price by then. and i haven't had problems since and for those of you that hate ipods (which you can change the battery out of by the way i prefer not having a battery that can fall out) get energizer rechargable batteries cause they last forever in mp3s mine lasted about 2 weeks in my minidisk and i listened to that when ever i rode... but you can't get smaller than the ipod shuffle which is nice cause it's really hard to break and it doesn't get in the way at all

username? tim?

and another thing with the 1gb mini disks the player costs 160 and the disks cost 20 so you can have 2 gigs of music for like 200 or buy a cheaper ipod and get 20 gigs for the same price (which is good if you have about that much on your computer and don't wanna have to do anything but charge your player) and if you get it at best buy and get the replacement plan you can just take it back if it breaks as long as it doesn't look deliberate

and the ipod is what 300? plus tax and warranty it came to like 380.

the new 30GB videos are only 250. tax would only be about 20 bux or so and thats mainly only in CA that they tax u. and the 1 yr warranty is free. if u had to pay all that u were ripped off. ipods are the most proven and are at the top of all professional reviews. they are the the smallest and best looking. creative has some pretty good ones but their interface isnt nearly as smooth and logical as the ipod. plus, apple's got the new 8GB nano. creative is to the ipod as windows is to mac. everyone copies apple products and says that their better and they hav some great inovation that apples already had for a year or so. if ur on a budget then get a used ipod. iv had 4 ipods (a 2nd gen 10GB, a 20GB 4th gen with color screen, 4GB nano, and 30GB video) and theyv all been great.

Ok, I need to completely dissagree with what has been said. Creative Zens are ****. Two of My friends were "anti-Ipod" people, they both bought Creative Zens. One of my friends broke his within a week when it fell out of his pocket. My other friend's randomly stopped working after about two months of use. He got a replacement Zen, and it broke within another 6 months.

Ok, first off, let me say, I do NOT take good care of my things, I'm just bad that way, and I have had my shuffle for over a year. I have thrown it into the wall more than once, dropped it onto concrete more times than I can count, taken hard slams on it while skating, and Iv'e used it in the rain, and it has gotten soaking wet. It still works fine. One of my friends got a Nano after his second Zen broke, and he's been using it over a year.

Here is also a site I found a while ago about the quality of Ipods: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars/3

DragonUSMC
09-22-2006, 06:46 PM
depends on your definition of spyware i guess. Itunes does log all actions and retains lic. info for all your activities. You know, because that information is important to the companies.

thats secondary anyway. If you must make use of a seperate program in which to load your files on to your mp3 player and then not be able to transfer files you rightfully own to different locations, then its pretty much crap.

I dont care what MP3 players people get. There are hundreds out there better then ipods, and all of them allow you your freedom to use your devices in any manor you see fit. Usually made by companies who specialize in this sort of thing. Anyway, make your own decisions... But I'm not going to be forced to use crap programs to do what should be a simple task.

second me for sandisk, and anyway, your shuffle and nano are flash bases memory, where the zen and ipod are hard drive, hard drives have moving parts in them that can break where flash based mp3 players are like RAM , its a chip wiht no moving parts thats why they dont break as often

depends on your definition of spyware i guess.

But I'm not going to be forced to use crap programs to do what should be a simple task.

u dont hav to use itunes for ur ipod. before i knew how to use itunes i used realplayer and it worked fine for updating my songs.
i dont think that itunes is spyware. that just sounds like a "its mac and thus i dont like it" kinda thing.

now that a company has released a 32GB and a 64GB USB flash drive the same size as a normal thumb drive, an ipod with a solid state drive may not be too far away

ummm actally its been ripped apart by a few computer programmers I know. I am no computer genius... but if 2 guys netting over 260k a year from their programming tell me its a bad thing, I will listen to them.

They said they didnt like the amount of scripting written in the program that encoded and retainded download information and then set it up to an outbound file that would execute upon log-on to the server.

They used a bunch of like big programming words that i really have no idea what it ment so they just said "its like spyware kinda" So thats why i call it spyware... its the best decription i can give =( srry.
