ok, so my dad said that he wants to buy me a snowboard because they're always really expensive to rent and it would be better if i just got one and that's it. im really excited about this except im not exactly sure what i want to get. i don't want it to be really expensive or anything, but i want a good board. it doesn't have to be like brand new, like it could be something that came out a year or so ago. i also heard that some boards are only good for doing certain things (e.g. freeriding, jumps, powder...) i want a board that works well under all conditions. also, the board that i rented last time i went snowboarding was apparently really bad if i wanted to ride switch. i took a snowboarding lesson and the instructor said that i shouldn't ride switch with that board but i forgot to ask him why. anyway, id really appreciate for some tips or suggestions on what type of board to buy, where i should buy it, what brand, etc.
in case this info matters for the board:
-5'2"
-125 lbs.
-intermediate rider (tough blue slopes)
also, i live in the south jersey area in case anyone knows of any good shops down here.
thank you so much!!!

Hey I have a 146 Ride Vista that I used for 1 1/2 seasons.. it's a great all around board, pretty soft though. I'll sell u mine, with Burton Synchro bindings.
Lemme know, I'm in the Cherry Hill area often.
n check out The Powder Room in Haddonfield.

I don't ride girl boards but I have a ride and it is a really nice board and has lasted me a lot of seasons and I ride a lot. It mostly depends on how much you are willing to spend too. I assume you will need boots and bindings too? I would check out to see what kind of packages are out there. They usually have end of season sales or pre season sales with last year's stuff.

The best deal is to get a setup now while there are still some left during the end of season sale, or try to find this year's boards at a deep discount early next season.
As far a board recommendations, sounds like you're a strong intermediate rider. Go for an advanced board. You'll progress a lot futher with it. If you're looking for a women specific board, here are a few to consider: Palmer Liberty, Gnu Barrett Christy Pro, Ride Kashmir, Salomon Ivy, K2 Mix.
Some of the smaller men's board are also great. They are generally stiffer than the women's boards, but I haven't found that to be a problem. Some people also say they are wider than women's board, but my Custom X is actually narrower than my Barrett Christy Pro, so I guess it really depends on the board.
In general, freeride boards tend to be stiffer and bigger and freestyle boards are smaller and softer (it's a little easier to get your rotations in the air with a smaller board). A softer board tends to chatter at high speed and not the best thing to have on a powder day either. As far as boards not good for switch riding, the only ones I can think of are the alpine type board, where it has a really pointy nose and a flat tail. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have a Nitro Fate.... Love it. Check 'em out. It's light and turns quickly.

My friend has the Ivy [151]... biiiig difference IMO between that board and the Gnu. Since we both have the Gnu, from my experience riding the Ivy, it is significantly stiffer/faster. The Kashmir is an even more advanced board than the Gnu as well.
Maybe u would wanna check out the regular Burton Feelgood, or even the Troop.. altho the Troop is described as a park board, it's more like an all mountain board that is a lot of fun to ride!
Ohh, or also check out the Rome Blue -- another great board, n more advanced than the Troop.

Ah, the Rome Blue.... I'm buying it this week I think. Let me ask this question... I have the Nitro Fate 151... When I buy my Rome Blue... would it make sense to get the 147? Just to have 2 different size boards? Is there a reason why I might want that?

^ NO NO NO!! Unless u want it for strictly park.. u never ever ever get a shorter board.. ever. Either get the same size u have, or longer.
I was gonna get the 151.. but ended up with the Gnu instead.

Thanks, it didn't make sense to me either. But of course, you have different people with their opinions and this is one that I heard but had no idea why.
And for the Blue... As much as I WANT it. I don't NEED it since my Nitro is brand new and really all the board I need for now.
I keep trying to tell myself that the extra couple hundred I were to spend on that board could be much better spent on my next season pass!
