Hey guys... I screwed up my knee this past season, and I was told I'd have to get some sort of a knee brace if I wanted to continue boarding without any issues. Does anyone have any suggestions of knee braces specifically meant for riding conditions? I honestly have no idea what I'm looking for, which is why I'm calling out to you.
I hope some of you can help me out with this... it would mean a lot! Thanks guys!

What kind of knee injury is it? I have 2 braces- the standard one that has an opening for your kneecap and goes around the whole leg, and the other is just a patella tendon strap which is just a strap that puts pressure on the part just below your knee cap. A lot of people use the standard one, which you probably should go with. Unless you want to pay tons of money for "special riding specific knee braces" (i.e. what SixSixOne Protection makes) you can use a normal brace, or if you want to spring for the extra support, some braces have something like a metal hinge along the sides, but those are kind of uncomfortable and bulky. Good luck!

Depends on what kind of a knee injury it was (elaborate please). There are lots of different knee braces that support the knee in a variety of ways depending on what your mechanism of injury was and what the symptoms are.
If it was a doctor or a physical therapist that told you that you needed one, I would ask them for recommendations because they know your injury better than we do.

Hey, Ive been riding with two knee braces for pretty much the whole time ive been riding. I use ones that are like Ace slip on braces, but more padded. I actually tore a ligament in my knee riding this past season and had to get surgery and **** so now i have to wear this big daddy brace with metal and stuff in it.
it really depends on what happened to you? If you strained a ligament or tore some cartalige/maniscus i reccomend going to a physical therapist and getting a metal based brace, otherwise something that fits over your knee tightly and makes it secure will probably do

I landed on a rail and ended up tearing the muscle above my knee cap. Off of a board I can't put pressure on it when I bend my knees other wise I feel a type of pain that's more of a pressure pain rather than a sharp pain, as if something was pulling the wrong way. I feel the pain right above my knee.

You tore the muscle or the tendon? Was the tear *right* above your knee cap? Was is a doctor or physical therapist that told you that you need a brace?

Although it's a different injury, I've recovered from tearing my MCL & ACL. My MCL was torn in half my ACL was only a bit damaged.
Anyway, my surgeon & physical therapist told me that I'd need to wear a brace for the rest of my life anytime I did anything athletic. To which I responded no way. It took a lot of work through PT and beyond to strengthen my leg & knee to the point where I can now do eveything with no pain without a brace. Everything includes snowboarding, skiing, hockey, martial arts, running x-country, hiking, & mtn. biking, all of which are pretty abusive on the legs. So it's possible to recover from a knee injury (at least in my case) and not have to wear a brace.
As for your knee injury, have you spoken with a good surgeon and/or physical therapist? Your condition may not be operable, but the only way to know for sure is to see a surgeon that does sports medicine that can give you the opinion you need to proceed. In either case (operable/non), a good physical therapy regime can only benefit your condition.
Good luck!

You definatly might need to get surgery or something if its a tear. I tore my ACL in half, and needed it. This could be serious so i really suggest you check it out/talk to a specialist doctor
