just curious how many iowa riders we've got in this forum. this may be a good opportunity to meet and make some friends and riding buddies. Always nice to have cool people to help share in road trips =)
So i will start. Female 23 Freestyle Iowa State student. Currently working for DNA (extreme ski apparel company) with a snowboard line on its way. I ride GNU with burton bindings. I travel to ride a lot and have ridden in Montana, Minnesota, Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, Utah. Best snow is in Utah.. tighest runs are in Big SKy Montana, favorite park- Buck Hill in Minnesota! always up to meet ridders!

Yo, I'm Jay.
I’m the head snowboard instructor and park designer / demo team captain / coordinator at snowstar in Andalusia, IL. ( I live in Bettendorf, IA) I used to go to ISU… ya know that paintball field out there by the towers? Yeah that is why I don’t go to school anymore. Spent all my time getting the city and the school to let us build that. =/
I used to live in Eagle-Vail and work at the Ritz Carlton… then I got activated for the war and have been home since I’ve returned.
Yeah but hit me up, I hit Chestnut, Valley, Boone, and that rail jam they do in Ames… maybe I’ll judge it this year. =P are you a DNA rep? if you are hit me up on email. Might be interested in doing some business… a couple of my buddies I used to ride with when I lived in Vail Skied for DNA… some pretty sick jackets they make… That and I noticed that all of Vail Resorts are using DNA as their uniforms now =D I like my Spyder, but could be convinced to change.
Shoot me an email Jason.chrzan@us.army.mil (Jason.chrzan@us.army.mil) (my day job is working for the Department of Defense.)

sorry, but people don't paintball there anymore =(
ive been to snowstar.. once.... so so so short..
If u did the previous years rail jam (year before last) then u must have seen me. i was the only female rider. i didn't do anything spectacular b/c i was just learning rails. i am far far far better now..
I also instruct at Boone and am there every single day. we may have met before.
Im not a sales rep, i am a designer. i am not working in there fashiond design section right now, but in office and mostly doing marketing/demographic research and graphic design. I am very excited about working for DNA. One thing i can say for sure, is the company has my respect. Now i am sure the people who work for Spyder are nice.. but these peopel here, are freakin awesome. All the employees treat eachother like buddies and are just all cool as ****. They don't feel like Corporate America at all.
There coming winter DNA line is flippin sweet. i promise you'll dig it. They also hope to spread into the snowboarding market more and target there designs toward them. I've seen some samples and i tell ya... The pants are amazing. By far my favorite part.
Most excitingly tho, is there first ever streetwear line they are putting on the market next spring. They are making everyday clothes with a little funk and a lot of technical design to them. like the cuffs and strategically places zip open vents... Very innovative. LOOK FOR IT ONLINE next spring.
Maybe when winter comes u and i can go ride together... u seem cool thus far =)

yeah i did the rail jam last year as blowstar... er snowstar. I think i was on the mic most of the time. eh i cant remember. Thats sad that the paintball field gets no use now. =/ the other team captain, Mike Ramsey, I think he is going for his masters now... well he got married... so maybe it died with him leaving the sport. Kinda sad that i've fallen out of contact with those guys =(
The DNA designs was one of the main reasons i was so turned on by em. I honestly dont care about "snowboard only gear" and "skier gear" ****in pants are pants and jackets are jackts... yeah i rock all spyder venom stuff. yeah people say its for skiers... yeah oh well, i've got some of the best stuff on the market. But DNA just had pimp little things like the inside little glove thing in the sleeve so your jacket wouldnt shift on ya. The zippy liners and vents... MP3 player pokets that were padded and protected. I was impressed... But when i first saw those there wasnt anywhere carrying them. (it was a few years ago like 3 or 4) And i couldnt find them ANYWHERE in the midwest. So i had to give up my search and we went with spyder again for our new ski school jackets. =( Bright ass ORANGE too. BAH! oh well... But that was just it.. DNA was rockin out in the Mts. and not here in the Midwest.
I'm working with NeverSummer right now... I'm going to do my best to push their boards in the midwest. I will ride nothing else... Is it possible to get a dealer package sent to www.skisnowstar.com? (address is on there.) We are entertaining the idea of expanding our shop and carrying boards and clothing and such. Gonna build a whole new building! yay! If you can that would be great!

actually i guess it doesnt matter if i post the address and my name =)
Or if you have a number for dealers to call to set up accounts too that would rock.

i will talk to my boss about dealing with you, but first explain to me who would be buying, where sold, how sold, possible quantities, what company, and give me more details of what your wanting to do, then i will have more to explain to them...
i did the rail jam in Ames iowa... right on Welch Avenue! it was a first attempt for the isu ski and snowboard club, but it was awesome! Sadly, last year it was cancled due to lack of snow.
I agree, i dig DNA and i will wear it even if a snowboarder. If i like it, i buy it. The thing with DNA and Descente, is that they REALLY focus on the technical aspect of apparel. more than appearance, they are technically awesome. from waist gators to competition snow cuffs and little pockets and vents.. they simply cannot be matched imo. I am truly proud to work for a company that cares more about comfort and the dynamics of riding then just looking cool. They do both. And u just wait for there coming line! im pumped!
Tell me more about what you do with NeverSummer... i have a friend whos a fanatic for the board and is just their biggest fan. never touched a Neversumer and own none of there stuff.. tell me all about it!

Snow Star Corperation would be the facility purchasing the articles. The would be sold at the resort to our general base sales and employee sales (but probably not many of the latter unless we need new uniforms... in that case i'll have to talk to the GM again) I do know that our lift attendants are on the outlook for new jackets and i dont think they have anything lined up. I'll have to talk to my boss... I'll be back there sometime this week as my stuff from NeverSummber will be arriving. =D
I will tell you about NS in a PM as i do not know their intent on the releasing of their buisness stratagy.

fireball
07-03-2006, 06:10 PM
yes, i know... but they only order from the factory once.. so they have to know hwo much to have made before they are produced... so.. we'd have to know a LOT earlier then the start of our season. and there season starts long before ours..

Yo Galesburg... Come out to www.skisnowstar.com i think its the closest for ya. I used to live in Eagle-Vail and rode Vail, the beav, and keystone alot.
But yeah we are small, but i like to make my playground nasty and big... well as big as 300 vertical drop will let me.

should i start a new thread and re focus it so we can have a clear collection of iowan riders? we've got 2 pages of mostly person to person dialog and then some not even from iowa. what ya think.. should i just leave this one?

fireball
07-09-2006, 10:20 PM
i used to live in urbandale.. and its a good hour drive. I am an instructor out there and we had HUGE number of urbandalers, clive, and west DSM people with season passes for our place b/c its just so much bigger, better, and funner then sleepy hollow. ALSO OUR STAFF TOPS SLEEPY HOLLOW with friendlyness and customer service.

07-10-2006, 03:03 AM
us iowans spent a lot of time in Mn... buck hill specifically.. i love that place... fantastic park
t.hitch
07-10-2006, 03:09 AM
oh i know!!! i bunch of my friends say they hate buck " it doesnt tickle thier fancy" so they go to afton, which sucks for the parks but has some keyword SOME good runs
fireball
07-10-2006, 05:52 AM
nnaa. afton and welch both have some nice fun and longer runs then buck hill.. but we mid westerners gotta face the facts... in areas like mn and ia we don't really spend our time at the local hill free riding.. why? b/c its too repetitive and too short of runs.. if u dont freestyle.. then it gets old fast. now utah and colorado is where freeriding is meant to be done... open air open runs and runs that u cannot even see the bottom of. so, high ho, high ho, off to the park i go..
burtonchild05
07-12-2006, 08:22 PM
sleepy hollow people are evil, but i get my license in sept, so i can drag my own ass over to boone, sweet, and i spend alot of my time in colorado, keystone and copper preferably, family and stuff

my bro and I usually rode keystone on the weekend and Vail during the week... I always liked keystone... maybe its just me but their park seemed to have more flow.
well no matter where you ride, its better to ride 5+ days a week then a only one or two days a season.

^either way man, you've got like 3 little ski hills here in iowa that are VERY cheap to ride at and fun to play on... I'll have to see if i've got any pictures of my park from last year. I've got some coupons and such i can hook you up with, so you can streach that Hy-Vee dollar!

no we are not getting a pipe... one, they are a waste of space, and i dont want to have to deal with finding a spot for it... that and pipe dragons cost $40k... sooooo yeah... if everyone decided to work for free then we could buy one =D
we'll be hiring soon... keep your eyes on the site

DragonUSMC
09-03-2006, 02:46 PM
The other main issuse, is we really dont have a spot we could put a pipe... i would have to knock out 2 runs and part of a 3rd even to get one thats like halfway worth it. =( Yeah i think we looked at some used ones... still above $19k...
We just expaned our snowmaking resourses to 3 million gallons of water. SO with that giant lake expansion, we are kinda out of extra play $ =/
