hey! i just started snowboarding a year or so ago, and im alright. But i want to get a good board. I kinda got a hand me down that's a little small for me i think. I was just wondering what the best type of board would be for me. But i'm not like...extremely good. I can get through a black...but not so well. I'm still on blues. so i figured a beginner-type board would be good for me. any suggestions?

i would say the Atomic Hatchet.... its abou $300 and its a sweet board... It has this special edging that makes it soooo easy and quick to turn, for that last second speed check... also if anything goes wrong with the board, you can send it back to the atomic warehouse, and they'll send you a new one, FREE OF CHARGE!! i currently own a hatchet and its great

I'd say don't limit yourself. When i startred, i went out there and got an expert board from the git-go. You'll get accostomed to it pretty quick, and you'll never limit yourself, and also save money in the long run. If you keep buying 2-300 hundred dollar beginner boards, by your third progression, you already would have spend the amount on the good board they you could have had from the beginning.
I really like my Option Supercharger. Its not rediculously expensive, and its a GREAT board. NeverSummer also makes a terrific line of boards!!

for a semi beginner for a girl i would get something with a little bit more flex/ a smaller board. i think a burton troop is great for your level because its more focused on a park board so it has a lot more flex and you can play with it under your feet making it much easier to controle and turn. i demoed their new model for next year and its ****ing awesome. another thing is getting a lower end board helps u learn but u already know or have a idea what your doing so get a board that helps u improve. you cant buy a board that is too good for you.
burton feather should be a good board. for a stiffer board maybe a nitro fate

I have a Nitro Fate.... It's sweet. It's not too stiff, just right. Light as a feather too.

I've heard good things about the K2 Luna as well as the Fate, Feather, and Vista.
You may want to see if you can wait until the season starts and demo a couple of the boards.

Yeah, I was going to say. You might want to rent or demo, if you have the chance, some different boards. Get a stiffer board if you just cruise down the hill, or a more flexible if you want to try out the park or you just like to feel everything you go over. You just have to figure out what you like in a snowboard. I have a custom Ride board, so I can't really help you out on my experience.

The Luna, Vista, n Feather are all about the same..
I started on a Vista, n it was great, but I outgrew it by the end of the season. It was too soft. Also, don't be intimidated by a longer board. While a short board may be easier to turn, u'll regret it later -- as they say, ur only as good as ur equipment allows u to be.
I'd recommend either the Burton Troop, Gnu Barrett Christy Pro [I have 1 - for sale, actually].. maaaybe even the Burton Feelgood [NOT the ES].

I have to agree. I also own this board and it is awsome. really good flex, the price isn't too bad, and I love the graphics. Great beginners board.

I'm a semi-beginner and I ride park. From the start I decided to get a more advanced board. I ride the uninc Gigi 158 by Burton. Someone before said you can't buy a board that's too good for you. I grew on this board pertty quick, for a semi-beginner. I say go for the best board you can afford for the terrain you ride the most.

im on an ATOMIC TIKA and i love it. but it seems like the feather is very popular. my sis has it, my instructor use to have it so it must be good. esp for a female.
also it seems like some pple went straight for a more advanced board...wht is the diff really? i was so tempted to get the burton t6 but the peeps at the shop said i shouldnt becos i was just a beginner.

i would have to agree that the T6 is not a beginner board. the t6 is a pretty advanced board all around. it has that honeycomb core thing and is suppost to be light as hell and strong. designed for pure freeriding, i have heard that its great in the pipe and big jumps too. only u cant do rails with it. because of the honeycomb core u cant put isolated impact anywhere on the board with out damaging it.

well im dreaming of freeriding all the time...
and gimme a couple more seasons and i will get the t6...
hmmmm...i think i saw the T6 in one of the vids...and tht dude was doing tricks wit it
you can do tricks with it, you just cant grind anything with it. but i know what u are talking about. if i had a worthly local mtn i would have gotten last years t6 instead of my customX. you know what board really looks sick is the vapor, wow she's a hottie

I learned on rentals which suck ass but I was only renting because I used to ski and my whole family is good at skiing and I was renting for only 1 day or 2 days outa the week at a time trips we would take during the season so I could get a lil better each time and still be able to have alota fun on blacks and double blacks with them. So I was probally riding for about a year or so not really serious but once i got the hang of turning I immediatly bought a Burton Custom 04 and I kicked ass!! I could keep up with my family and split up for a second to hit the park and then meet back down at the lift without any problems. Sooo, seeing how it worked out for me I would suggest the Burton Custom 04 (I still use it today and I got it off ebay for like 350) Probally stolen but hell who cares?

I personally like K2 boards because I find them a little bit cheaper than other boards, and have a huge range of boards so you can get as specific as you like. I ride a K2 Illusion and love it, and it's one of their cheaper boards.

DEMO, DEMO, DEMO!!! Try at least 3 different boards before you buy one.
Look for something with a medium flex and moderate sidecut. You want to get something that you can grow into in both size and ability.
I would suggest the Burton Feather, Rome Vinyl, and the Atomic Tika
