i got a concussion on tuesday night. (not gonna say how cause i dont feel like typing it all out but it was snowboard related) i went to the doctor yesterday and they said nothing for a week. is he being over cautious or is it really not worth the risk?
i only have a month left of riding...

Concussions are nasty stuff. Getting too many means your can't play sports for the rest of your life.
Sit out a week and you'll be happier. Heck, go and hang out at the hill for a day taking pics if you really want to be there.

my mom is a nurse..all the docs do here is listen to what the nurses say n then tell the patients...only dif really is that docs dont talk to thier patients as much as nurses do n thats why my mom is only a nurse

There are many things you need to take into consideration with this. How bad was it? How many have you had?
I have had 3 concussions but none were from riding and they were all a while ago. My doctor says if I ever get another serious one I might be ****ed up for good though. Concussions CAN be serious or be very minor. One of mine I just needed stitches and that was that, another one of mine I spent two nights in the hospital and ended up with a messed up head and two sprained wrists.

..... dude.. if its a minor concussion your fine... even if u hit your head again youll be fine as long as its minor ive had about 11-13 concussions..minor... mind you from a combo of motocross and boxing.
and only three major concussion... and those my doc(whos a pimp and never steered me wrong) told me i had to wait...ranging froma week to a month. the month one i got a major concussion was from motocross..fell from about 25 ft up and had the quad land on my head.
so u can go....just dont go and get a major concussion.
and if ur calling bs on me dont.. i have many dizzy spells and blurred vision so trust me ive bene through the wringer.
Mmmmmm.....Be really careful with head injuries. I've had two concussions and I now am priviledged enough to get migraines all the time because of it.

How well does your helmet fit you, if it's too loose you could be getting double impact (helmet hits snow, then your head hits inside of helmet).

dude, wait a week. it's only a week. if i were you, i'd rather be safe than sorry. if you already have a concussion, you can do worse damage if you wack your head again.

like i said i do wear a helmet everyday regardless of weather. my helmet fits perfect. i fell perfectly on my goggles and in turn smashed my temple into the snow.

if you feel fine then go up and just ride. wear a helmet and no inverted stuff on the terrain park & careful on rails. esp if its your first concussion and its not that bad you should be fine.

11-13?! Id be a bit more careful or youll be on the verge of permanent brain damage, im not joking.

i would ride anyway...if you sit out for a week, you never know you might be waiting until next year for snow because this winter is unpredicatable.

11-13 concussions? Stay on the bike, stop boxing, or learn to block.
To answer the question, no, your doctor is not being overly cautious. If you take another blow to the head you're risking greater injury to your brain. Is snowboarding now with a concussion worth the risk? Depending upon the damage you've already done and potential additional injury you could do, you could end up blind, loosing motor skills, experience memory loss, or worse.
Personally, when I was recovering from my concussions (2) I kept away from ANY physical activity that may have caused me to take one to the head. I kinda like to see. And to tie my own shoes. And not to drool on myself. Not because those things WERE going to happen, but because they COULD HAVE happened.
Do the smart thing and listen to your doc.

Check out the inside of your helmet everyonce in awhile, and make sure you don't have any cracked foam or "soft spots"

The foam inside a helmet can be damaged and loose it's ability to protect your head even if it shows no visible damage. Also, the foam decays over time. If it's showing signs of damage, it's absolutely toast, but even if it's not showing signs, if it's taken a good hit it ought to be replaced.
Kinda just like a motorcycle helmet.

i used to not wear a helmet, then i got a minor concussion so ive worn my helmet ever since..then i had yet another minor concussion..they suck but yea try to be careful i would ride hard but just stick to what u know you can easily stomp n ride away with..n get a helmet, theyre great on cold snowy days for stayin warm!

yea snowboard helmets are good for one impact then u have to buy a new one because the foam liner crushes on purpose during an accident

the helmet didnt even touch the snow. my goggles broke and they are certainly not designed to absorb an impact.
