I dislocate my shoulder more often than I would like to lol. My doctor says I have loose shoulders and that there is nothing i can really do about it...It kinda sucks because it hurts like a bitch and I have to pop it back in myself, does anyone else have a problem like this?

alot of swimmers have this problem from rotating their shoulder in the water every day. my brother messed his shoulder up and he had surgery on it, they "tightened it up" because it was loose, so they might be able to do that for you, if its a serious problem.

i have the same problem. i cant throw any thing overhand (thats why i play lacrosse) only sidearm. physical therapy is the only way to help prevent it. um surgery is a really easy way to hel fix the problem, but then you have to rebuild your entire shoulder (muscle wise) after 6 weeks in a sling.

umm i dont know of any swimmers with this problem...they have bad rotator cuffs that hurt...but not dislocating them easier...i swam for 15 years and was NCAA Div. I so I do know what I'm talking about...

that only helps for so long. if he keeps doing what he did to "loosen" it in the first place, he'll be right back where he started (it'll "loosen" again). Physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around the shoulder are the best way to prevent it from dislocating.
And yes, I'm speaking from personal experience. PT in high school and I still do most of the exercises to prevent problems.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you sound just like me ten years ago (man that makes me feel old :(). I used to do that with my shoulders. I could (probably still can, but haven't tried) dislocate them at will and it didn't hurt. But doing that to entertain and gross people out, and to get out of doing stupid stuff in gym class, is what made them so bad.
I wish someone had told me "DON'T DO THAT" instead of just "Um, you shouldn't be able to do that" when I first learned I could...

well they need to do more dryland then and strengthen their shoulders...not just flat out swimming constantly...that shouldnt happen if properly conditioned...unless they all have some other shoulder injury that is causing this...or their stroke is completely wrong...

One of my friends has loose joints and her shoulder was partially popping out and then went totally. She's in PT, but she still won't do jumps on her board since she is afraid of falling.

Dislocations promote more dislocations.....once you do it the first time, 99% of the time it'll take a small chip out fo your shoulder that lets the thing pop out easier the next time. I know a guy who will wake up with his sholders in odd places if he sleeps on his side.

I injured my shoulder playing hockey about a year ago. Once it got better I gave more attention to strength training my shoulders. Not only did my shoulders get stronger then they have ever been but it also has a nice sliming effect. So with all that said, your doctor may mean that you are more prone to it but you CAN do something about it. If you develop stronger muscle around the joint it won't have as much room to pop it out. Kinda like trying to cork a hole in a water gap with gum as opposed to putty. The putty is stronger and will hold better. Same principal applies to you muscles.

i dont think it takes out a small chip i think it stretches the tendons.

99% of surverys and stats are made up.
My younger sister has a bum shoulder like this. It pops out all the time so she can't play sports very much or she risks popping it out and taking another trip to the ER to get it popped back in. It used to pop out in her sleep and all that crazy stuff. Her only solution now is to get surgery to tighten up the tendon.
