Where's the Oz information on here?

okay i am new to this place - but shouldn't there be Australia info on here somewhere? considereing the snow is flying there right now...anyone out there to tell me what is going on - planning a trip asap...would love to hear about conditions and mountains in Oz thxs!

Yep, snow is falling down here. Had a few dumps, 40 cms a couple of days ago, but then a little rain/sleet yesterday so that's probably turned to ice now. Hopefully as we get further into winter the temps will drop enough to avoid rain/sleet after snowfalls.

The mountains here are totally lame, and the snow conditions much the same. I wouldn't make a trip out here just to ride, but it wouldn't be a bad thing if already out here on a holiday.

NZ would be a much better choice, or South America (Argentina and Chile). NZ has much better mountains than us, and much better snow quality. NZ is still not as good as the Northern Hemisphere for mountain and snow quality, but it good enough to entice me over there for 6 and a half weeks of riding this year from the end of July through to mid-September. Lots of mountains on the South Island, and quite a few small ski fields, nothing that you would call a resort though like in the Northern Hemisphere.

Well, Thank You everyone for your great replies...its kind of hard to go somewhere else and spend the cash when you live in one of the worlds best places for riding though...but both NewZealand and Argentina sound great!!! maybe it is something to ponder over in the future... i just don't quite grasp if the mountains aren't good in Oz then how come so many of you board? and come and live in Whistler???? lol makes for some great partying though!...okay if i was to go though...where would i go to ride?

there r basically 5 options:

Victorian Resorts
- hotham
- falls (i personally rate falls)
- buller (went to buller on saturday, snow was pretty damn good for start of season...but i cant exactly compare with whistler or even the US)

NSW Resorts
- perisher
- thredbo

there r a few smaller places, but the one mentioned above...r most likely the best.

PS the mountains arent THAT bad in oz...
but i am thinkin bout hittin up whistler in ur 08/09 season

Compared to overseas, the mountains ARE THAT BAD in oz!!!

So many people board because it is so much fun, not because the mountains down here are good in any way. That's probably why so many aussies end up in Whistler, trying to find some real mountains.

If wanting to know where to ride down here, probably Hotham or Thredbo, but I'm into freeride, not park. For park, probably Falls Creek.
