SBA- weekend in the SOUTH!

Okay so next season will be coming up in a matter of months. It seems that east coasters always get shafted with ****ty conditions and less of a chance to ride. Also, a large majority of the SBA community is on the east coast, but we have so many fewer SBA trips. This is for people in the south, because I am thinking Snowshoe should be the place for it. What I am suggesting, is that we get a good number of people that are willing to commit to get together and ride for at least a weekend, and we rent one of the condos on the mountain and ride all day and party all night. With a good number of people committing to doing this, the cost shouldn't be all too much, plus if we have enough people, we may even be able to get a group discount. So at this point, everybody use this thread to see who all is down for going and we'll post all the details here too. Hopefully by the time snow is falling we'll have something set in stone and reserved with our names on it.

Are you guys wanting an early trip? or one in the middle or towards the end of the season?

Going earlier in the season (i.e. before December 21) saves you about $200 a night for the cabin rental alone.

Yeah, the more people that can carpool, the better.

The one cabin that I've been looking at says that there's a couple spots to park out front and the rest are around the side.

We could probably fit a good number of cars, but they may get pissed if there are like 12 different cars filling up all of the available spaces.

dude, its all on whats cheapest. I'd like to get a hot tub, but I'm not paying like $150 more a night for a hot tub, when the like condo center has an indoor heated pool and a hot tub for its guests.


Oh and if you want Clash, you may be able to carpool with us on the way up there. You could meet at like the bristol exit or whatever it is on the highway on the way up there. The only thing that I'm weary of is that I don't know if I can fit 3 dudes and 3 or more boards in my Audi...... I may just have to take my dads blazer up to snowshoe, but I hate driving SUV's, cause the way I drive+ mountain roads= a bad situation.

I'm so down for this! Though it looks like I'll be one of only 3 girls going, haha. I'm also able to pick up anyone between Henderson, KY and Snowshoe (yeah it's an 8-hour drive but I go to Snowshoe at least once or twice a year anyways). yeah I stayed there and that set of stairs is no joke. I smoked before going riding and by the time I was to the top of the stairs I wasn't high anymore...... I was pissed.

That condo really isn't that nice, and it doesn't allow for that many people to stay unless we rent two right beside each other.

Dude, I totally down for this trip. I'll be 3 hours away from Snowshoe. I'll try to get some girls to come, after all, I will be in college. ;) Oh, and I'm sure I could snag several cases of beer (it'll be cheap beer though--Natural Light, aka Natty Light-- so if you want something better, you'll have to bring your own). It doesn't really matter to me of when the trip is. I prefer not in December because December isn't that great, and I'll most likely be in Arizona, snowboarding. I think February would be best for conditions and all. Everyone should bring something to help with the partying. Like GA has the herb covered. I'll bring some beer (if I am able to get some). And there should be several other people bringing beer and alcohol. So kinda have a commune thing. That, or you drink and smoke what you bring. But it's harder for some underage people to get ahold of alcohol. What do y'all think?

I worked out a deal with my mom-- every year she wins a trip through her work, and normally takes me along; but since she's going to Vegas this year and I'm not 21 and can't do too much there (and I'll be in school), she's just gonna give me the few hundred for this trip. It actually works out pretty good for her considering the costs of a flight, food, and hotel to take me along with her (my dad and sis are also going with her).

I will be 18 when this goes down so I'll be an adult, but if they need someone 21 then I've talked to swiftnotarizer about maybe taking over the renting aspect.

Another difference is that you were trying to book a hotel. Doing that is much different then renting a cabin. All of the places I've looked at are Rent By Owner, so its up to the owner if they require the person to be a certain age. Plus I am going to try and pay the woman who owns the place through paypal, which doesn't look at age or anything.

I don't see it becoming a problem with the way that we are going about it now, and if we run into any problems then I can transfer the funds from my PayPal account into another SBA member's and they take over being the actual one who's name is on the thing.

Wait, nevermind. It's only 6 hours from VaBeach. I'm used to riding in a bus, making it longer. Plus on 64 there's hardly ever cops, so that means atleast 10-15 over. So probably more like 5 to 5 1/2 hours depending on traffic and stops.

Yeah, what the hell am I talking about? It's interstate, which means an average of 20-25 over. I don't think I'd dare go 100+ the entire time on the interstate with the retarded drivers in VA. I mean, if it's wide open then I'll deff get up to 100, but I know that there's going to be a bunch of 'tards on the road, especially if it's the weekend before Christmas. Sh*t! If we have it on that weekend, it'd mean even more cops on the roads, which equals more speeding tickets and people slamming on their brakes to avoid speeding tickets.

You do NOT want to live down here. It's not bad to visit, because you're in the tourist part of town. But it sucks. Traffic is horrible, the streets are even worse, people suck, everyone's uptight. Yeah, the cops are d*cks. Especially at the Ocean Front. That's where they put all the rookies who have big egos and abuse their power. Word of advice: do NOT hang out around the Ocean Front past midnight. You WILL get shot, stabbed, raped, robbed, and/or beaten. At night, the Ocean Front become REALLY ghetto-- one of the worst places in VaBeach. Oh, and avoid the Peppermint Beach Club. The bouncers are major assh0les, and when there's not a rock concert there, it's really ghetto. Do check out WRV and The Jewish Mother (aka Jew Mom's to locals), best surfshop and diner/concert venue in the Beach. The Beach does have some really good bands. If you're ever able to see Jackmove, you MUST see them. They are an amazing local reggae/ska/punk band. They're looking to work with the producer of Matisyahu and are reviewing several major label contracts (they havent signed any because they want controll of their band). So yeah, the music scene is good, and good restruants, but that's about it.

Now I been getting a season pass to the Wisp from 2004 on. They just have better terrain and less crowds. It's way more fun to ride there then 7springs.

Last season, when if finally got good, Showshoe hardly had a base. They had bare spots the entire time. Their main park finally got opened in like late January, but the park on the Silver Creek side never opened. ...I did experience fresh powder for the first time in my snowboarding life! Three f*cking years untill I rode pow. :tsk:

Yeah, sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but this trip in all will cost a good little chunk of cash.

Hopefully just the cost of the rent will be a little over $100 if we get about a dozen people to go. The $65 up front is just the money needed ahead of time to save our reservation. Later on we we establish the final number of people to go then I'll let you know how much the remainder is.

And to upset you guys a little more, this cost is just for the cabin we are staying at, I haven't looked at getting any group rate tickets or anything, thats usually for groups who are staying at one of the places provided by the resort..... but someone can look into it if they want. Prices are per day:
Tickets will be $58 per person for a student, and $63 for all others. Those rates are for a multi day pass during the weekend. They do offer group discounts, I belive for a dozen or more people, which drops the price down to something around $35/person-- I think that's the rate if I remember correctly. I will already have a season pass though. But if we're one person short of getting everyone a group discount, all those buying tickets can chip in and just buy an extra ticket (in order to get the discount), then just scalp it for a few bucks cheaper to someone else and split up the money accordinly.

No, no McDonald's. The only food available is the restraunts and cafetaria that the resort put up (the town is completely owned by a company who manages everything). They have Starbucks, and the cafetaria is tolerable. The other restraunts are way over priced for okay food. Snowshoe is at the top of the mountian, and there are towns at the base who have cheaper food and such, but it takes a good 45 minutes or so to make it to the base.

**** no, that pizza place is good and not too overly priced, but if you were really on a tight budget theres a little store between the village an the top of the mountain that you could probably get **** to make food with.

I was referring to the number of people going.

If it's going to be a small number we may just get the cheap condos that really aren't the greatest just cause they'll be cheaper.......... but we'll end up having to walk up those DAMN STAIRS...... and thats a pain in the ass

Its not all that great, it has 3 bedrooms and a couch in the living room, but if we had more than 4 people then some will end up sharing beds, the couch, floor, etc.....

I'll look into a few more options if we are not going to have a big enough group to stay where we had been planning before
