Season started a month or so ago...I went boarding at Mt Hutt last monday and tuesday but it was fairly rocky (30cm/12inch base on trail...none off trail) ...my poor board base. Had a decent snow later in the week, but I have not managed to get up this weekend. Check out the snow in the vids!

I hope that we get alot more snow soon in my local area. The North Island has good base, and so does the Southern Parts of the South Island!

Went to Porter Heights Ski Field last Sunday and Monday (2 days ago). Snow was groomed machine powder and crouds were minimal.

The field is situated in a valley with quite steep sides which limited the amount of sun the snow got on it throughout the day. Due to a lack of snow this season only the bottom tow rope was open which still made for quite a long run. Wind picked up on both afternoons and the snow was being blown off leaving exposed ice patched (saw a ski instructor nearly lose it mid carve, laughed) but left stashes of powder in the "out of the wind" parts of the mountain. This made wise run selection essential. Also due to the lack of snow, rocks were at times exposed latee in the day.

Riding was still awesome though, and the lift prices were reasonably priced.
