I spent the week before Christmas 2006 staying at Chalet Chamois d'Or in Morzine. The whole town is amazing. Its so nice and the friendliest resort I've been to. A lot of people stay in Morzine to go to Avoriaz during the day. That wasn't our plan but there was no snow in Morzine so that's what we did too. Avoriaz has quite a big range of slopes and it is in the Port du Sloeil area so there are around 6 resorts in France and Switzerland all joined together. I would reccomend staying in Morzine because it has a much better night life. If you do go you MUST go to Les Paradis, always a good night, but if you're going to drink then have a few somewhere else first (maybe The Dixie Bar) as Paradis is 8 euro a drink and you have to pay to get in.
