OK so I’m doing a review of my own hill… shoot me.
I have to admit that as short as our runs are, I am quite proud of my giant rails and my one massive step down. I try to make very random and different things then you see in most terrain parks. All of our quarter walls are almost natural and right at the top of them are trees for stalling on. Sometimes I push random piles of snow together and head out with a rake and shovel and see what kind of crazy lines we can think of. I have a rail which came strait out of the ground at the local private college and right on to our hill. It drops into the ravine and sets you up for the 45’ battle ship box rail which was made out of an old lift tower. Yes… its that big. My giant Step down has a 45’ flat section, usually is about 10-15’ tall at the cut off… because of our small size I usually cant go bigger then that or I run into “no landing” issues… so I build them so you can go medium or as fast as you want and still have a nice landing to ride off on. I love gap jumps, so I build a bunch of little 20 footers to float slow BS180s over. Last season I sprayed blue dye in the gap, took inflatable alligators and make the “gator pit gap”. Equipped with inflatable palm trees and pink flamingos. So if anything our park is fun… not the longest in the world but definitely will make you smile and leave a lot of options open for you to choose. This season we are building a giant deck / Stair set / box and rail feature on the middle of our hill. With benches, warming tree, and stereo system so you can chill while people session a stair set 10’ from you.
The thing most people love about us is the teaching staff, and our facilities for new skiers and boarders. We focus highly on this customer and do it exceptionally well. $5 extra with rental and lift ticket gets you an hour and a half group lesson. $10 extra if snowboarding. Without rental for an hour and a half lesson is $15, $18 for snowboard. Private lessons for one hour, beginner to advanced is $35, $15 for add-ons limit of 2. Advanced and Specialty lessons available (IE park and pipe riding) upon special instructor request and must be made prior to visit to guarantee availability. Our instructors have the same training as major resorts, but at fractions of the cost and much more focused on the individual.
We also have a Tubing hill… Which I actually used the first time this last season since it was built… I have to say… it was a riot. The things are FAST and with the rollers the groomers build into it you can get a little bit of air… with a nice soft intertube landing. Grab you buddies… make a chain! We did… and got 57 people all at once.
The rest of our terrain is gentle and mild, enjoy a few turns and smile that you are paying pennies to ski in the Midwest… we are not Vail, but you don’t have to save all year to come see us for one visit…
